I was just wondering, do any photographers know of a good honest, and reliable camera store near Jacksonville FL? I can not seem to locate one. Just have the big box stores listed in phone directory.

Thanks :(

Camera store? You mean like an actual building where you go and buy things? I think they are extinct. A scientist did claim to have seen one in the jungles of Borneo, but it turned out to be a Starbucks.

It's odd, I know, but there are only two legitimate brick and mortar camera stores in Florida: North Tampa Photography (http://www.ntphotodigital.com/ (external link)) and Palm Beach Photographic Centre (http://www.workshop.org/ (external link))

Other than that, it's Best Buy, etc.

We used to have a full service store here in Gainesville (Harmon's) but they bowed to the economic pressures of the internet, state sales tax, etc. They were a great resource. I miss them.

B&M stores are not extinct but most might be on life support . I buy from two in my area and only go online if my locals don't or won't stock items I need or more likely want to acquire. Have you looked in the yellow pages of the phone book? Assuming someone in the house hasn't tossed the yellow pages quoting the erroneous" everything is on the internet, there is no need for a phone book anymore"

The closest thing to a camera store in Jax was the Ritz in St Johns Town Center. I tried using their in house print service a few times, but the place ended up becoming a cell store, and I don't know what is there now. The Best Buy on the west side over by Argyle Forest off Blanding had a decent selection of photography equipment, better than the Best Buys up here by a good margin. Unless something has changed since we moved up here I think you're stuck with Best Buy.

DavidR,

Thx for the link. I somehow missed Orlando Photo when I was searching. I tend to avoid Orlando so that could have been the reason, though in this case, it was unconscious.

Jacksonville camera club may be a good info source for you. There are usually 50-60 people at the meetings twice a month. Stop by one evening as a guest and talk to them. There are usually several very experienced photographers there. Do a web search for directions on SS, or newsletter.
