Tessa.. More great shots from you from what seems The Most Interesting Place in the World!
You said that the last set was from work.. now I'm interested in what you do for work.

The ice pictures are fantastic.. it shows that it get really, really cold there!

I work for a car magazine :) About half of my work is related to photography (this is a weekly magazine, so we don't do any glossy studio shoots, it's more of a "real life" look), but I also help with testing, translate some stuff and even write on rare occasions.

Ottawa

Our town's winter festival was a couple weeks ago. I didn't manage to get any shots of it with Nifty because I accidentally packed my own 50mm f1/4 on the day I went. I'll share a couple of those shots anyway. :o

The ice sculptures were beautiful but the crowds made them hard to photograph. I liked this one a lot.

Ottawa

This craftsman was carving ax handles. He was really not dressed for the weather. I'm pretty sure it was -10 C or below that morning.

These are maple syrup candies. Simple and sweet; pure maple syrup poured into a bed of snow to solidify them.

A beavertail is fried dough. I think there are probably variants of this all over the place but ours might be unique in that it is a large, flat oval. It looks like a beaver tail, hence the name. They are made fresh for each customer and topped with your favorite topping. The original flavour is called Killaloe Sunrise (after the Ontario town where the business got started) and consists of cinnamon sugar drizzled with lemon juice. Another favorite is Nutella. The stands pop up on the canal every winter and we have one permanent year-round stand in one of the touristy areas downtown.

I miss beavertails. We used to have one located at the base of Lake Louise ski area. It disappeared in the mid 90s replaced by a drinking establishment.

Once again wonderful images by you both, Tessa and Julie. And I love that ice sculpture!!
