Can anyone tell me what I would need to get the sun in this image but still the flare.. Would I need a filter? If so what kind of filter? I tried several settings in the camera and it just wasnt working for me. I don't like the blown out sun look which I ended up getting. Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated. Thanks

not sure if this first one really counts? But the background is blown out, no "flare" though..

Someone with more experience (with including flare images) will hopefully correct me if I'm wrong here. But I'll throw in a thought.

One option could be to meter for the background( I think you'd still get a flare), but this will underexpose your subjects by quite a bit. Somehow you would need to get some light on them, not sure if a reflector would push enough light back or if you'd need more power.
Hope that is of some help.

some one told me to meter the subject with the sun/flare out of the photo on AV, see what you get and then put it in manual mode with those settings and flare away. A reflector is not a bad idea though!

keep in mind, I am very new to this and looking for as much help as I can get! This forum is a god send, I am on it far too much!

I've read that often in this thread and that's the way I've tried them, but his/her aim was to not have the background blow out. I'm sure I read in here a while ago that different lenses will give different result(at the same focal length).

Wow, really goes to show how much the model and photographer can make a difference in a shot! If there was ever a perfect example, just that slight difference in angle can have on the end product! Excellent photo! #2 is awesome

I'd love to see the original files on these to see how you got there.. Also what lens did you use for this?

i didn't do anything special, all light room edits, pushed exposure, pushed clarity, a bit of dodge and burn and split tone. i did use Photoshop for some cloning and skin and sunglass cleanup, but no artificial sweetening.

i used my 50mm
