Well I am here at Sigma to have them once over the lens to make sure it it focusing properly. The tech laughed when I told him about the price gouging on the Canon lenses....lol

I'm actually going tomorrow. 60% of my shots are dead on, the other 40% are repeatedly very slightly back focused. In those situations, if I take a second shot and apply a very small nudge on the focus ring, the results are sharp even when pixel peeping. It seems to be related to lighting, subject size, contrast, and who knows what else. Its obviously an auto focus issue rather than a misaligned element since it doesn't happen all the time. I described it to a tech and he seems very sure it was a fixable issue. I hope so. Any advice when I get there?

I assume I was focused on his left eye, I always forget how slim the focus is at 1.4. I've tested mine and it seems to be really good, though I guess some random focusing problems might be happening sometimes that I don't notice. I am new at this.

What about Ian? A customer with similar problem to mine or is he an employee?

My copy had serious back focusing issues so it was received at Sigma's NY repair center on a Friday and back in my hands the following Friday with a much improved AF.

I just picked up a new 85 1.8. I think while I give it a test drive I'm going to send my Sigma in to see if they can sharpen it up more for me.

Current Gear: Canon T4i (gripped), Canon 10-22mm, Sigma 30mm 1.4, Canon EF 85 1.8, 18-55mm Kit, 55-250mm, Yogo YN-468 Flash, LR 4, Carryspeed Slim, lots of bags.

Mine was made in HK. Building manager found it in the garbage and told me to keep it if it still worked.

Well????

I went. The weather really sucked today. Heavy rain all the way, 84 miles worth each way. Just got home a couple of hours ago. On a bright note, they said my lens was actually in good shape but was back focusing a bit, as I thought. They checked it out for less than a half hour and modified the software or some such thing and AF is now dead on. Very pleased with their service and desire to satisfy their customers. Thanks for your interest.
