same mountain, different day :D:D

Really like the view with the snow. :) I didn't have a chance to get out and shoot any of the pretty white stuff..

I was all over it Ryan. Thanks...

This is the P-51 Mustang that was in town with FiFi

There's an "airshow" every day at Sky Harbor. The east economy garages and the terminal 4 roof are good shooting locations.

The Salt River berm where 40th St dead ends south of the airport is also a good spot when they're landing from the east.

Very cool.. I guess you are the "show host" at sky harbor?

Couple different scenes up at the lake..

I think I'm going to head over to Squaw Peak later today and see if I can find some poppies....

Sunset...

The cacus in a different light.... not nearly as magical as the prior shot, but a different color tone.. :P

great photos all!
I am probably going to try and do more video now, they have me teaching it at my school now. So...any ideas for projects are always welcome :-D I'm probably going to look into getting a dslr with video now, but...might switch to nikon since that is what my school has for lenses and such :-/

Hey guys! Sorry to intrude into your local activities page, but thought this might be the best place for a few suggestions.

I'm heading to Phoenix (Litchfield Park actually) for work this April 6-9. I'm taking a vacation day to get there on the 5'th late morning, which gives me Friday sunset and Sat sunrise, have to report at 2 PM Sat.

I was thinking sunset Friday of the Superstitions from Lost Dutchman and then I'm lost. Any suggestions for desert wildflowers (I'm monitoring the Wildflower infosite), Saguaro, or wildlife? I'm guessing this will be mostly landscape, so I'll bring tripod and filters, likely leave the larger lenses behind. I did sign up for a company sponsored jeep tour Monday, but it will be in the harsh PM sun so not sure how that will go photo wise.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, even if it's just a suggestion to move this question to a different forum, but from what I've seen and read here, it seems you would have the answers.

Thanks again!

Welcome! Our east siders should be able to help you out more. Lots of beautiful landscape around there. There are some nice spots on the west side as well. I like the area by the Estrella Mountain Park there. Good luck. We're supposed to be in the 90s today which is early so who knows how warm it will be when you're here in April.

Litchfield Park is in the west Valley... the Superstitions are far east. Lost Dutchman looks amazing, but I have never been there... You can check out South Mountain.... but I'm guessing by April the wildflowers may have dried up.. hopefully not.... Usually the cacuts are blooming in Aprial. I know of a nice little spot near Lake Pleasant that has a bunch of different cactus that I often photograph in April.

Sorry, I don't know much about the east valley either.. I'm on the West and don't get east very often. I hope one of the East-Siders can chime in here....

If you have time to drive up to Boyce Thompson Arboretum, the flowers might last longer up that way because it's a bit cooler... :)

Hope that helps.... :) (if you want to shoot a sunset at Lake Pleasant.. I could probably swing it, depending on what's going on at home).

Thanks for the warm welcome!

Ryan - Estrella Mountain Park shows to be about 10 miles (24 min) from where I'll be staying. Maybe that would be a good sunrise destination? While I love the light, I've never been much of a morning person. (I get up at 5 AM usually for work, so when I CAN sleep in....) Anyways, I saw some nice shots on flickr and I'll search this site some more as well.

Kristy - Love your sunset pics from Lake Pleasant! (And only 38 miles compared with 61 to Lost Dutchman). Travel time is about the same tho, but worse if Phoenix rush hour is as bad as Boston? Maybe landing in Phoenix, driving to Litchfield Park to check in and heading back to the West for sunset is pushing it.
If it's a nice ride besides, then that might be a great sunset destination. I've always enjoyed the journey.

I also have the Arizona edition of Laurent Martres' book series "Photographing the Southwest", maybe that has some tips, but I'm asking a lot for about 24 hours time lol.

Thanks again, and yes, I get anal about planning at times. I'll see if I can attach a recent trips planner pic below. (Not my pics in the planner, hadn't been there yet!)

Sunset up by the lake a few weeks ago... :)

LItchfield isn't that far away from the lake, and I think you can now take the 303 loop to get there a little more quickly. What cross strees will you be staying at in Litchfield?

Love that shot! The peak in the background reminds me of Cabezon Peak near ABQ.
I'll be at Wigwam Resort - 300 E Wigwam Blvd, Litchfield Park, AZ 85340. Not far at all really. I won't need 4WD would I?
If I'm cluttering up this thread, feel free to send me a message and thanks again for the help!

Well with the activity in this thread...you're not cluttering it up :-)

If you don't mind cloudless sunsets then yes, Estrella Mountain Park might be nice. I don't know why I forgot about Lake Pleasant, you would get a lot more wild plants and scenery out in that direction, and maybe with the lake you might get a little cloud or two that day. We are not much for April showers if I recall, but this has been an odd year so far with weather.

Definitely not in need of 4WD.... shoot me a message and maybe we can get all the west-valley people to meet up. (East Valley folks are more than welcome too... I know it's a drive for ya) Then we can head over to the spot where I shot this.... if you want to...

*blush* Thank you! :) I always get a little happy on the inside when they choose one of my shots.. even if it is just for fun. :) The talent in those pages is amazing, so to be among them is quite an honor.

Jay is definitely the "Master" of his craft....! The avaition work just gets better and better!

Went out to the Pipeline Canyon Trail up at Lake Pleasant Yesterday... started at the east entrance, and headed west. The first half of the trail, up to the bridge is covered with poppies, lupine, those orange flowers (forget the name) and a bunch of other teeny tiny little flowers.... The hillside looks amazing! Definitely worth a trip if you are looking to shoot some flowers.

I was lazy and slept in... because there was a nice cloud cover in the morning.. big mistake.. it burned off by the time I got there and it was just a little too sunny... I'm going to head back again next weekend hopefully and try it again in the late afternoon/early evening....

anyway... here's a few
