Wife likes to go to the shooting range. I don't really care for it. Had much more fun at Ace Archers in Foxboro. It's almost meditative.

Taking photos with a fancy camera does not make me a photographer.

took a ride out to parker river wildlife refuge today...nice day to be out, if not a bit cold. had a couple owl sightings, nothing close enough for my 200mm to get up close though. plenty of 400 and 500mm lenses out there today.

nice scenery, and what looks to be a beaver dam on the way in.

I own the 5D3 and 1DX...I wouldn't say the focus of the 5D3 is as good as the 1DX but the 5D3 focus is better than any of the previous 1series I've used, including my 1D 4

This is more what I meant, (or what I should have said) only the 1DX can beat it.
I understand the 1Dx has additional processing power behind the same AF system, so it is quicker.

But, that new AF system that is in the 1DX and 5D III is amazing.

I was shooting the other day and had my subject quickly dart into the trees, with lots of obstruction between me and it. I kept the AF point on the subject, and the camera just ignored the branches and trunks, and kept lock on the subject. No 1D I have shot was quite that good.

It's incredible. I had the 5D3 before the 1DX and I couldn't believe it...Just so damn good.

So i wasn't able to sell my 5DMKII on FM or any other sites that i listed it on...(Which is extremely uncommon) so as a last resort, i put it on Craigslist. With my second 5DMKIII coming, i needed to sell it.

Anyhow, after a bunch of crackpots, finally a guy from Quincy contacts me. Says he's interested, would like to meet up Sunday to check it out... i say, no problem. Then he says he'd prefer to meet saturday afternoon. I can't do that, helping a friend install a floor in his house. But realizing i need to move this, i said surely, i can meet you around 5-6pm. I get there at 6pm. Dude is inspecting the camera like he's looking through a microscope for bacteria on the thing. Asks me all sorts of questions, which was fine.

So i was selling it for a cool 1k. I told him i'd sell it to him for $900. if he picked it up this weekend only. So everything seems to be going ok, he's complaining about the scratches, even though i took photos of them and explained it's a 4 year old camera that was used quite a bit. bla bla.

So he says he only brought $860. Dude, wtf. This is why i don't sell on Craigslist. So i say to him, dude, if i told you $900. why would you only bring $860. He says, the ATM would only let him take out $860. So i say, dude, don't bullcrap me, i know you have the rest in your pocket. I can't do $860, so i start to take the box and leave, he pulls me back and wants to take another look at it.

He says $880. and that's his final offer. Realizing how much trouble i've had in selling it, i say ok. He then asks where a cable is. Ok fine, let me swing by the house and grab you the cable. (I didn't realize it was missing, because i never used it and don't normally use it for anything). Anyhow, we are now at an agreement of $880. He hands me the cash, i could it, it's only $860!!!!! I say dude, WTF is wrong with you? I just said $880. and you hand me $860? I said screw this, give me the camera back... he whips out the $20. and says sorry and that was it.

I'm Never dealing with CL again. Ever. It's like a act-shady-as-sh.t-free-pass site. I'm all set man. I was literally ready to beat his ass. But i just wanted to move the camera and a cooler part of my head prevailed.

Damn that sucks. I Always do my big craigslist deals with 2 of my BPD friends with me who are plain clothes but can open carry. That gets my point across and no one messes with me.

Just turn up to these meetup points for Craigslist deals wearing a hoodie and the gas mask in your avatar. You won't even need your plain clothes BPD buddies :D

I can.. I make it painfully obvious to people that if they show up with less than the agreed amount that they aren't taking the item home, period. If I say $900 firm and you say okay, let's meet up, and we meet and shake hands and you see that I have the item ready to get checked out, don't be surprised when I ask you to demonstrate to me that you're ready to pay $900. Hell, if you show me you were ready to pay $900 if everything checked out and we discover something that I didn't list (has never happened but I guess it could), I'll let you pay less.. just be ready to meet your original agreement and I'll be much more willing to work with you.

When I sold my Sigma 17-50, the guy I was working with talked me down to $575 (which is actually a pretty good deal for me I guess). He shows up with a $75 postal money order and $500 cash because his atm wouldn't let him take out more. That's actually plausible in a way, but it's usually something you can up for the day with a phone call. He had the receipt, so I begrudgingly accepted it.

Of course, he looked at me funny when I took the lens out of a McDonalds bag, but as I explained to him, 'Put two people side by side next to each other - one with a McDonalds bag, one with a photo bag (or no bag at all). Who's more likely to get robbed?'

Glad you got it sold tho Brendan. I *almost* made you an offer on it... but after putting my 5D3 through a couple of mini portrait sessions this week, I cant go back. So many keepers.. and dat 600EX-RT system..

Well it had 134k clicks on it. I have to realize that scares some people. Having CPS, i'm not worried about stuff like that. The camera will be serviceable for many years to come. So for me, i don't really care how many clicks are on a camera. It costs $419. minus 30% for us CPS members to replace the shutter box assembly.

But some folks don't have CPS, so they think the camera will be unusable the minute it hits 150k shutter clicks. Actually many reports are out there of people hitting over 200k on them. So eh, whatever. To each their own. I can't say how someone should feel about something. They are right in their situation and i'm right in my situation. Depends on the person and their comfort level dealing with repairs.

Naturally you had the bag with fries in it, and the lens in a supersized coke cup, right? Look legit and all the part :D
