I take it these were night shots? There is nothing wrong with them, they look fine, I think you are being way too critical of yourself.

Night shots are hard. My shots were also around 1600 iso. I know i had a faster shutter speed than you did. I wanted to freeze the ball and arms in motion. I too am learing alot from this and always look forward to the next shoot.

First baseball game of the season yesterday as the JV team opened play. Typical wind was blowing by mid-game. Dust every where. Oh the joys of spring baseball here in Central Washington.

Im in constant learning mode

I think for mine depending on stadium
1250 3.2 1/500 might be as good as I can get

maybe help the noise

DST helps now

Thanks. Not sure if Gif files will help. I resized them to load here using PSE 8.0 and it converted them to a gif.
I might be able to crop him more, If I can and it looks better I will repost the results.

Guys, GIF is not designed really designed to be the output format for photos. It is more for icons and graphics and the odd animated set of photos. Use high quality JPEGS. Save at the highest possible setting when outputting.

Sharpness is a factor of a few things including:

1) Nailing focus. Learn to understand what is and is not in focus in camera and delete those that are not before you even get them into Lightroom.

2) Sharpening in post processing. All digital photos need some sharpening applied to them in post. Don't overdo it and remember that oversharpening rarely if ever rescues a photo that starts well out of focus.

3) related to #1, make sure you are shooting in the correct AF mode and that you understand ALL the AF settings and AF points in your camera. If in doubt, RTFM...Read the F#$%* Manual :)

Cheers!

Couple more..

When I seen the second pic I had a flash back of playing Hoover back during my playing days. Some 20+ years ago and the field still looks good. Thanks for the great photos and the flashback....

I look at all these nice, bright, sunny baseball photos and then I look out my window and see that it is snowing with no high above freezing in sight. Not that the high schools here have baseball anyway. It's so un-American. sigh
