It's from an unauthorized dealer. Also, the used prices for 24-105 have come down a lot recently with the influx of kit lenses. So I'd say this is an "average" deal.

I see people selling their new-in-box kit 24-105L fairly often here for $750-800. If they purchased from an authorized dealer (and that's mostly the case), the warranty transfers.

I picked up a new kit lens 24-105 on here a few weeks ago for $700, so if you're patient you can find some great deals.

My sister, the professional baker and cake decorator once told me that my camera takes great pics. My reply was that I thought her oven baked great cakes.

I don't believe warrant transfers. Canon would not honor one for me. Perhaps that changed.

Absolutely correct, hoopofficial.

I checked via an email to canon Canada about a lens that I had purchased that was a as a parted out "kit" lens and still within the warranty period.

Their response was "The lens is warrantied only for the original purchaser and is not transferable". That was in Feb. this year.

So if my uncle buys me a Canon lens as a gift, Canon would not honor the warranty? I'd have to send it to my uncle? What a hassle.
I know for a fact the both Sigma and Tamron honors second hand lenses' warranties.

Canon USA will honor it as long as you have a receipt and it's within the one-year period. Anytime I've sold an item to someone and it's still within the one-year warranty period, I give them a copy of the original invoice and I write on the receipt that I gifted the item to whoever it is I'm selling to.
