I had a opportunity to shoot division one indoor swimming as a tryout: they like my stuff better than who they had. The sports information director wants to talk me about shooting baseball. I shoot for a local paper and high school sports.......this is not my job photography is only a huge obsession and what money I make does pay for equipment and kids school........What does one ask for as far as compensation? By the game? Hour? Any ideas....thanks

They probably have a rate they already use. If your work is that much better, ask for a little more since they are getting a better product.

These generally price per game.

Rates always see are $200-300 range for most sports (football is usually $300-450). My deal is one game is set highest price, book 2-3 and price goes down a little, 4+ goes down little more per game. They get 10-20 images after the game immediately (which always try to over deliver), within 30 minutes usually, and the rest delivered by disc week or so later after culling and organizing but very little editing (basic levels/sharpening, straightening sometimes) - SID's usually want the full image even if there's dead space so they can edit it how they want, dead space can be a good thing for them to work with!

Rates vary by school, event, and publication. You can shoot for a small school that will only pay you $30 for the day or you can work with a publication that offers $350 per game. It all really depends on what the buyer's budget is and whether or not it meets your Cost of Doing Business + Profit goals.

Have fun!
