I know this question is probably asked over & over but im new to DSLR and need to know what lens i need. I shoot with a 7D, i shoot music videos, i already have a canon 50mm 1.8 when anyone here recommend shooting a whole video with only this one lens? To me it seems like i need something else for full body shots. Price is a factor i dont have much $ but i also dont want any low quality product. Any help is highly appreciated.

Tokina 11-16mm 2.8 550 used (if your doing more indoors and low light)
Sigma 10-20 f4 350 used

Nothing wrong with the 18-55 for wide shots outdoors either

Canon 6d +70d
Canon 17-40L / Sigma 50mm 1.4 / Canon 85mm 1.8 / Canon 18-135mm / Sigma 50-150 2.8 / Canon 580 EX / Gopro / EOS M

If you are limited on the budget, then a zoom might be a great choice. Giving you more focal length options. Primes will always be better for low light, but if you have only the budget for one lens. I'd say get a wider zoom for your crop sensor 7D.

Then later, if you can swing it, get a EF 85mm f1.8 for tighter shots. You'll love that lens! About $300 to $330 good used.

Yep, I use the Tokina 11-16 for videos a lot, it looks great.

I have only heard good things about the 11-16, 3rd party company that kicks some serious butt!

Also, take a look at www.KEH.com (external link) for good used gear. Thats where I got my 85mm f1.8.

I used to own one of these lenses for stills. It's quite a bit zoomed for a cropped body but the image quality is amazing for the price.
