On Tuesday evening I photographed the launch of a United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket carrying the Space Based Infrared System (SBIRS) for the USAF. The rocket lifted off right on time at 5:21pm from Launch Complex-41 at Cape Canaveral, FL.

The first three photos are from my remote, sound triggered cameras at the pad.

#1 Canon 40D, Rokinon 8mm, F/8, 1/1000, ISO 200

Wow, nice. Wouldn't the heat ruin your cameras though?

The heat from the rocket typically doesn't bother the camera, they are just far enough away. However, grass fires can occur which can cause problems. The main worries are liquids, rocks, sand and other debris hitting the camera and damaging/destroying a lens.

Excellent work, having that sort of access means you have to make the best of the opportunity and you have certainly done that.

My picks a 1 and 4

Amazing shots! No. 1 is my favorite.

I apologize if this is a newb question...I am a newb!

Picture 1 is very sharp.
I can imagine there is heavy vibrations on the pad. Did you do anything to compensate for that?
