Why would you take a setup pic anyway?

To impress others with 1/ how much gear you have or 2/ how much skill you have to make up for having virtually no gear.

Option 3/ to help others learn how to setup lighting, is also a vague possibility but it's so unlikely as to be almost implausible.

Love the low-key gray-on-gray shot, is that a LED video light you used to paint with?

Yep, mix of LED light and strobes.

while setting up, the cars owner said he wanted to show me something he had taught his son. he pulls out an orange towel, and told his 3-year-old "go clean wheels!" and this happened:

what did you use to accomplish these shots? strobes? speedlights? any modifiers?

I used two bare yn460ii's for the two whole-car shots, and one in a softbox and one bare for the wheel.

My first attempt at light painting today and I am super pleased with the results. Was pretty cramped for space and I still have a lot to learn about it, but I will definitely be doing this more often
