So I just purchased a 6D because I wanted 60fps for slow motion. But now as I'm editing, I'm getting a bit confused. Nothing seems to be working right and my quality seems like garbage after exporting. I'm using Premiere Pro as well.

So my questions are..

1. Do I start the new project as 60fps or 24fps?
2. Do I just import the footage right in at 60fps?
3. I edited my entire video at 60fps, and I have one slow motion clip slowed down to 24fps, do I have to do something special before I export?
4. What settings do I use when I export. With 24fps I used to use h.264 but now no matter what settings I choose, the quality or frames look terrible.

Thanks in advance!

I haven't tried dropping it in premiere yet, but there are 60P settings for premiere. What I do is put it in after effects, Drag into a composition, and then right click on the file (interpret footage) and then check the (conform frame rate) box, and set to 24 or 30p. This will slow the footage and make the composition longer. Then I usually export (Quicktime H.264) to a .mov. Then I edit from there in premiere to slow speed more etc. There may be better ways to do it, but this seems to work o.k for me. Of course my pc is a 2007 model, and all other ways crash it lol.

I already know how to slow 60fps to 24fps to make the slow motion effect.

What I'm trying to figure out is question 1-4 for all the footage I don't want slow motion.

I started a 60fps video in premiere. Edited a full movie at 60fps. Slowed 2 clips down to 24fps for slow motion. Now how do I export it so that it won't look like garbage or ruin the quality. Nothing seems to be working.

Should I have started the video as 24fps in premiere?

Well if you are going to be slowing the 60fps footage down to 24fps for slow motion on a few clips, the rest of the project to match up should be at 24fps.

So are you saying start the project as 24fps and import all the 60fps clips then slow down selected clips then render?

New 24p sequence, drag 60 fps footage into timeline, right click, Speed/Duration, set speed to 40%.

But do I open the project as 24 or 60 initially?

Yes it is that easy.

You don't have to trash what you did either if your current sequence is 60 or any other speed. Just start a new sequence at 24. Then go back to your original sequence, high light everything and copy and paste it over to your new sequence. Then you can set your 60 speed clips to anything you want within your 24 sequence to get the look you want.

I work a lot in both 60 and 24 videos in Premiere Pro and sometimes have to bounce back and forth or change mid stream.

For maxed slow motion (no frame jumps or lags) take the target output and divide that by the total FPS. 24/60=.4 or 40% speed.

Is this better than interpreting the footage to 24fps? (I guess the advantage is you don't mess up the source clip, is that all?)
