Really? I thought about saving some $$ and getting a 3rd party hood off eBay.

Its probably worth a try. The mount design is bad, and I've heard horror stories about the 3rd party hoods not fitting well. But then again the original hood is pretty mediocre so its worth the try.

I have a third party hood, it is a real pain in the arse. I suspect the Canon one wouldn't be much better. There just isn't much of a lip for it to grip.

Current Gear: Canon T4i (gripped), Canon 10-22mm, Sigma 30mm 1.4, Canon EF 85 1.8, 18-55mm Kit, 55-250mm, Yogo YN-468 Flash, LR 4, Carryspeed Slim, lots of bags.

I've got a third party one as well. Terrible fit. Gotta ask yourself if you really need one. If you're shooting in situations where you need to control flare a lot - or you're keeping the hood on just for protection purposes - then maybe spending the $25 is worth it to you.

For me, I just need it for the 5-10% of the time when I know I'll be shooting into the sun. For the rest of the 95% of the time, this lens is indoors in a studio and the hood is pretty much never used.

One of those things that I don't really agree with Canon on. I know they try to squeeze us for cash at every turn, but $25 for a piece of molded plastic that's a generic design for 4-5 lenses anyway seems a bit silly.

I've got a filter and OEM hood for mine, dog's and beaches will do that. OEM fit ain't great - but it works fine.

I have the OEM hood and it's ok. It has a tendency to pop off if bumped at the correct angle.

I plan on switching to a rubber hood http://www.bhphotovideo.com …Screw_In_Rubber_Lens.html (external link)

I drove out to the terminal and picked up my package. Now i can't wait to try this lens out. Can't wait till i can contribute to this thread with some awesome photos like you all post.

Very nice. I just received this lens last night, haven't had a chance to try it out much yet.

Just got this lens last night. Had to try it out on myself to see how it works. The 1st one is taken at f/4 and the second one at f/2. I like the 1st one better then the second. The depth of field is really tight that wide open. I prefer not really tight, Other then that i think the image quality is excellent. I love the the way it works so far. I think this will be the lens i grab when i do portraits for sure.
