Hard drives are cheap enough these days, unlike the new camera, which will no doubt be waaay more expensive than the Nikon D800E.

Yea, I know. I can keep adding HD's to my Mac, which should keep things ticking along for the next couple of years. But you're not wrong about the price, I think it may come as a bit of a shock to the system given i've got a feeling they aren't going to go down Nikon's route, and will put it in a 1D series body.

My feelings are generally completely wrong however :)

I'm thinking it will be gripped because, A) they would charge more for it, and B) They already released two non-gripped FF cameras.

I hope they don't grip it. It's nice to have the option to add a grip to a camera, but it isn't always necessary and would be a PITA to have one permanently attached. I rarely shoot portraits in portrait orientation.

Inbuilt grips are a news journalist's and event photographer's tool. This is most certainly not a news journalist's or event photographer's camera.

Well, then it's got to be waaay better than the Nikon D800E -- otherwise the D800E (which will probably be even cheaper at that time) will be still an option to think about.

Tell that to Canon. Sometimes they seem to think that they exist in isolation.

I would not be surprised if the new camera is on the same level or slightly below the D800E, but much more expensive.

Canon wants to be Leica.

Not sure if Canon will fix the banding problem. 50+ MP and 9 fps :).

Am hoping this is true... if they've fixed the DR/pattern noise problem, I'll buy two! If it's 50+ megapixels, it'll also be an ideal wildlife camera, not just landscape/studio.

Nikon/Fuji.

What's the point of 9fps for anything other than sports?

Wildlife is sports.

Not quite - with wildlife you often want more leeway to crop (animals bob their heads up and down and look left and right all the time, so you want to just be able to keep a centre point focused on the eye and crop around that, rather than having to constantly change focus points because the exact position of the animal's eye keeps changing, hence the advantage of a full-frame, high-pixel-density sensor) but 4-5fps is usually more than enough for that.

You've asked me what 9 fps is for other than sports, I've given you an example. Everybody is different on what they like to shoot; that dictates what kind of camera he/she will get and what kind of images he/she would like to get. Personally I treat anything that moves fast as sports where continuous AF and fps matters. I don't use center point AF only for this kind of shooting.

There's a whole lot of butt-hurt in that thread. I'm glad you posted that; I was entertained.

The point of 9fps is it's awesome. Don't like it? Use single shot mode.

If you can list all your gear in your sig line, you don't have enough stuff.
