Just so you guys get a better idea of how big the trip to Bells would be for me from Perth WA ... Google maps says it is 36 hours (non stop driving) and 3,420 kilometres......:-)

mileage wise about the same as New York to Salt Lake Utah

It is actually quicker for me to fly from Perth to Indonesia than it is to fly from Perth to Melbourne & Sydney on the other side of Australia

Well, I just finished packing my surfboards ready to head off to Bali next weekend, and once again I went to extremes by wrapping them completely in several layers of bubble wrap before they went into their padded travel bags.

I really hope the neanderthal luggage handlers at the airport don't stuff them up like they did last trip to Hawaii, but I am not being overly optimistic.

I hope you get good waves and the boards make it there in good shape. We're expecting this thread to be throughly inundated with Indo pics!

What housing and lenses/ports are you using? I'm jumping at the chance of shooting from the water (probably moving to Brisbane/Gold Coast in a few months).

The housing I picked up is a "custom" job by a local guy, not commercially produced as far as I can tell, but it was cheap off CL, the controls work and it keeps the water out! haha These 4 shots I've posted so far in the thread were all taken with my little 40mm 2.8 STM - not the most dramatic look, but good for working distance when I'm just out hustling shots, not shooting a specific surfer. If I was shooting one dude in a predictable manner, that would be a different story

Looking good Paul! Wish I could have joined you - had some jobs Sat. & Sun. that weekend

Never too cold to surf in NY.

Great shots Stella!! Longboards hold the advantage in cold water - less of you sitting below the surface :-)

doofuss wrote in post #15756280 (external link)
I dont know how you guys surf in cold weather like that....I detest the cold at the best of times. No matter how good the surf, I dont enjoy it in cold water.

You gotta do what you gotta do to get stoked!!

I made it down to the WSA event on Sunday for a little while. It had some great waves.

Good stuff Kirish!

Doofus, this is the result. got some other of Julian, Parko, Mick and Wilko

Nice water shot man! Helps to have some good content on the other side of the lens!

May the swell be with you!! Looking forward to the pics for sure!

Here are a couple I shot in the water the other day of the longboard crew at Blackies (Newport Beach, CA) - Not the most impressive waves that day, but hey!

What do you guys think of this layout for a 4 shot sequence? The text in the corner: good or bad?

Nice longboard shots from the water Andy. The second one looks like it was taken in the 60's except for the wetsuit.
