Excellent point. I have probably one of the guiltiest people asking relentless questions that were already answered. Now, I do a search about 85-90% of the time before I start with why, why why. What would be cool if there a was a magic way for the thread to take keywords and point to the answers, but I would miss all the interaction.

Okay, Encouraged by this thread I decided to wean myself from the instant insesent (sp...too tired to look it up) POTN questioning. I didn't know how to whiten teeth so I did a search here. Typed keywords how to whiten teeth. After sifting through 11 pages and some mild cursing under my breath, I pulled up CS2 help and couldn't find it there so I decided to Google it and came up with Photoshopsupport.com and Voila! Became acquainted with the "dodge" tool which I had never known about. Here are the results. Since I didn't bug anyone for help on this one, you can give extra c&c! :) OOPS just noticed this really isn't the right forum for cc could someone move it...See I am like a bull in a china forum...sorry!

Whoohoo! Thanks Kathy and ArticEOS. Who knew it would be so easy without quantum POTN handholding! I coulda brightened them more...but I thought that was more realistic.

Great work. It sounds like you sould use a good CS2 book though. Try Kelby's Book for CS2. It is pretty good at getting the basics and some advanced stuff. Once you have these down all of the fun stuff begins. For about $30 it is unbeatable.

Very good! I like the dodge tool - you have to be careful with it. You can really go crazy. BTW - it works well on the whites of the eyes for that little extra snap too. Or on the catchlight in the eye.

Here's another tip I found helpful - on preferences, display and cursors, check the crosshair on brush tip. It gives you a dead center on the brush tip for accurate placement on the image.

And kudos for looking it up and figuring it out yourself. It is now something you've learned how to do the hard way and you will undoubtedy not forget it.

Dave, You are absolutely right about learning the hard way. I will try the cross hairs. I did the dodge tool a little on the whites of her eyes, but not much. Those lightening strikes on your avatar are awesome. Thanks much!

I used to dodge them but I like Scott Kelby's way better (from his The Photoshop CS Book.) Lasso the teeth using 2 or 3 pixel feathering. Don't include any of the gums. Then>Image>Adjustments>Hue Saturation. From the Edit pop up select Yellows and drag the Saturation slider all the way to the left, then go back to the Edit pop up menu and choose Master, then drag the Lightness slider to the right while watching the teeth. I seem to use about 10 to 15 most of the time, it depends on how yellow they are. Click OK then CTRL D to deselect. Try it you'll like it!

mbze430, I think both are unrealistic! The next time you see a dentist, ask him to show you samples of the color range of tooth enamel.

Works, but don't desaturate all the way! Just enough to look realistic. A little yellow desaturation goes a long way! :-)
