I just pulled the trigger on a Helios 44m-4. I decided that's one lens that I could definitely see a use for at some point :)

It;s a nice lens. I just used it for portraits in my new bought 5Dc and saw I very sweet rendering much crisper and more impressive than on my Rebels.

Some simple photos

Awesome :)

I was torn between it and the 55/1.8 Takumar. I decided on the Helios because the swirly bokeh looked like it'd be perfect for portraits

If the chipped adapter thing works out for me I might get the Takumar or the 50/1.4 Takumar as a walk around lens anyway, I'm really not happy with the shots from my nifty-fifty. Ever since I got my Yashica I pretty much haven't used my nifty-fifty, but the Yashica has some pretty bad haze on the glass and I think it's killing the contrast of the lens.

EDIT: The adapter came today and it works perfectly! I think the focus is ever so slightly off so I'm going to try some MA tonight, I'll post up pics once I find the time ;)

^How do you find the 50/1.4 Zeiss compares? I might end up picking up the 50/1.7, I have the Yashica 50/1.7 DS-M and ever since I got it I've been obsessed with it.

I came across this lot in a thrift store last week and thought I had hit the jackpot... (sorry, pic was taken with an EF lens, but it's of vintage lenses)

Turned out all the lenses were either not easily converted mounts "Minolta" or just no-name knock off's that were way over priced :(

Then today I went and hopped around some flea markets for most of the day and go figure the very last place I went into had an old camera bag sitting there... when I asked the clerk to look at it he told me they had a whole bunch of lenses and camera "junk" behind the desk and he let me dig through it :)

I walked out with a cheap Vivitar SLR with a Vivitar M42 50/1.9 MC lens on it, a Vivitar 200/3.5 M42, a PK mount Sears 135/2.8, a cheap tele-converter and my favorite, a Yashica ML 28/2.8 (the later version) all for $50! :D

I'm ordering mounts tonight. I also have a Helios 44m-4 that I jumped on since it was only a couple of states away. I ordered it the other day not knowing obviously that I'd be finding all this stuff. Needless to say, I'm excited to try them all out!

I think the 1.4 and 1.7 are just so close. The color and feel of the images are very similar. My 1.7 copy does cause mirror hang up on my 5d, is its a bit more annoying to use. I think if I only had the 1.7 but no mirror issue, I wouldn't feel lacking without the 1.4. They're all just tools to create photos with.

Cool, thanks for the info :) My Yashica 1.7 hangs up the mirror on infinity too... I might try out the Yashica ML 50/1.4 since it's so much cheaper than the Zeiss, I could use the extra speed and my 1.7 has seen better days.

My friends on Facebook went nuts over this one for some reason... I'm not sure if after one person "likes" a picture it pops up on everyones news feed or what, but I posted 23 photos and this was the only one anyone "liked"
