I'm still deciding between the 6D and 5D3, but whichever one I choose, I won't get the EF 24-105mm F/4L. In my opinion it's no match for Canon primes when it comes down to image quality.

Different tools for different jobs. Primes are nice, but sometimes I just want to cary a single multi-purpose lens when I'm out and about.

Besides the 24-105L is as a kit, a fraction of a line item purchase. Should be able to easily get the kit, and sell the lens and turn an effective instant profit

AF is indeed better, its much more responsive and it locks quicker than the 5D2. The outer AF points are also much reliable than the 5D2.

The 24 105 L is a compromise lens, the compromise against its widest at f4 and constant f right across its zoom range is its price, you could always go for the 24 70 f2.8 for over twice the price.

I've had my 25 105 for about 2 years it lived on my 40D and now lives on my 6D it is a good walk about lens.

I have never liked the 24-105 but that was dictated by the type of photography I like to do which is plant/flower and some landscape. For landscapes I use primes and for "walk-around" I use a G-series camera.

I'm kind of disappointed with the 24-105mm, it's only sharp to the standard I expect from an L lens at 24 to 35mm. Doesn't live up to the standard of other L lenses I've been able to use. But it's still the best travel and walk around lens.

That's the thing...it's such a useful focal length. Hard to beat it in one lens.

I've now had my 6D one week. I got the 24-105L as the kit lens. Coming from a Rebel crop background I have spent the week becoming one with the buttons and controls. I think the 24-105 is a fine lens but it and the 100L Macro I bought with the camera are my first premium lenses so I don't have a lot to compare them to. Since we are just emerging from winter right now I don't have my favorite macro subjects available to shoot so don't have a lot to share in that regard. My initial testing with it shows great promise both on the 6D and the T2i. As things thaw around here I have been walking around with the 6D and the big Siggy taking pictures of ducks. Since duck photos are ridiculed I will not post any. The combination of the 6D and Siggy are excellent for wildlife. When it is cloudy I often am shooting at ISO of 1600 and what little noise there is Lightroom removes instantly and with little IQ degradation.

I am kind of itching to take that 100L underwater but I need a longer port on my housing. I think I could get some really amazing stuff with that and my T2i. Sorry off topic.
