Navydoc,

That hawk in flight shot is outstanding!

Thanks, I appreciate that. I was pretty excited to be able to get that shot.

Here is a Coopers Hawk with breakfast. The hawk flying is a Red Shouldered Hawk. These were all taken with the 2X III extender.

Lukich, your shots are super as always.

Finally had a chance to try the lens I bought it for motorsports but since there have been no events yet decided to try it on various subjects:

Wow, really stunning shots from all of you :)

Now, after 173 pages of photos, you have convinced me, I will buy this one instead of the 400/2.8 IS due to lighter weight and a more reasonable pricetag. I think I'll get this and a 1.4x and 2x extender.

I will use it for shooting Icelandic horse competitions. I've already got the 70-200 f/2.8 non-IS, but I find it a little too short for that use. Any thoughts?

Also, what monopod(and head for monopod) would you recommend for this lens? I have a Velbon RUP-L40, but I think that'll be too risky to use that.

I have a Markins Q20 Ball head and love it on both a tripod and a monopod.

I think you are right. The weight of your lens and camera will exceeds max weight load capacity of this monopod. Some time ago I made a mistake when I used Manfrotto head for monopod with low weight capacity and it broke eventually. I was lucky, because camera with lens had fallen into my hands.
