This was my first attempt at the moon taken from my backyard with 7D with 70-200 mm f/4 lens. Settings: 1/320, f/5.6, 200 mm, ISO 100.

This was taken with my 70-200 f/4 (non IS) zoomed out to 200mm. At this point I don't own any converters so I just did best with what I have. In the DPP software I cropped out around the moon to produce this photo. I did experiment with different apertures but I found that f/5.6 and f/8 produced similar results.

beautiful shot!

I just tried with my t3i and 55-250 and could not compare the results with similar aperture and iso.

Thanks! Just curious, were you using a tripod and cable release? That could make some difference in resulting image quality.

Yes, tripod and wired remote INCLUDING a neutral density filter otherwise I had a glare no matter what filter I used.

Another thing I like to do sometimes is use manual focus together with the live view + digital zoom magnification so I can achieve a good focus. However, this doesn't mitigate glare. Does the 55-250 give you glare in any other shooting situations?
