I recently purchased this camera & it came with a basic user's guide & disk. If i wanted to make a hard copy of the "indepth manual" it would mean 215 pages! I find this ridiculous! Canon expects the buyer to download 215 pages! Is this normal for most of canon's cameras? Knowing the above i would not have made the purchase.

True, but so many pages even from the cd. Maybe i should sell this camera & consider a digital point & shoot box camera.

ohh comeon! actually i never used a manual.
its not so hard to figure things out yourself without it.
selling a camera just because of a missing physical manual? thats kinda strange.
Its not a computer. If you have any questions, just ask it here and you will get
quick response.

I agree that the cameras are fairly easy to understand. My bet is that people who get confused generally get cameras that thy are not ready for (don't know how many thousands of posts I've read where people who never used a manual setting camera or an SLR of any kind) get their first camera and "upgrade" several times in the first few months of camera ownership.

So in cases like that, it isn't surprising that they get confused. And the Canon owner's manuals in general are not organized very well (especially for those who get cameras they aren't ready to use yet).

But the thing that amazes me most is that so many come here with their questions only to get answers that may or may not be accurate...some answer with guesses, others with opinions.

Canon had GREAT telephone support and that is part of the cost of buying a Canon camera. So why waste time getting "quick" responses here when you can get quick and ACCURATE responses by calling Canon's phone support?

Wow, what a nice picture! You must have a really great camera!

The manual on my SX20 and SX230 came that way.
I just dumped 'em on my phone and Nook Tablet.

Yeah, I'm old school and even I managed to adapt.
