I had planned to go out last weekend but caught something and had to sweat that out first. But I feel bad about not posting for a week so I browsed my Nifty collection and decided to process a few of those. So these are pretty random and unrelated images, but I hope you like them.
I plan to take Nifty out for one last grand tour and then send him on. I want to wait until next weekend though as then the Rijksmuseum will be open again after a 10 year renovation. Press reviews are cheering and I can't wait to get in. Don't know if I can though as I'm sure the whole of the country will want in, but I'm going to try very hard.
So, until then, here's some more from earlier trips. If that is all right?
#1 The windmill from an earlier set. Taken from the city side.
On the left, behind the trees is the so called Oosterkerk (Eastern Church), a 17th-Century Dutch-Reformed church that is now in use as a community center.
#2 This weird looking building is the science center NEMO. It is located at the Oosterdok in the center of Amsterdam, situated between the Oosterdokseiland and Kattenburg. The museum has its origins in 1923, and is housed in a building designed by Renzo Piano since 1997. It contains five floors of hands-on science exhibitions and is the largest science center in the Netherlands. It attracts annually over 500,000 visitors, which makes it the fourth most visited museum in the Netherlands.
It's great fun for both adults and children and not to be missed when visiting Amsterdam!IMAGE LINK: https://flic.kr/p/2iaZAJj
#3 I took this when visiting the Schreierstoren (posted in a previous Nifty series). The street on the left is the Gelderse Kade, on the right is the Oudezijds Kolk. It's just a nice, always busy corner with lots of things going on. And there's a coffeeshop as well.IMAGE LINK: https://flic.kr/p/2ib2VfX
#4 If you walk from the Schreierstoren down the Gelderse Kade you end up at Nieuwmarkt Square. It's a nice enough square with lots of terraces like this one. The text on the sunshade (what sun?) says: in the middle of Mokum. Mokum is a different name for Amsterdam. It comes from the Hebrew word for 'place' which is Makom. The word 'makom' in Jiddish is pronounced 'mokum.' We have a great many jiddish words in our Dutch vocabulary and this is one of them. So we often refer to Amsterdam as 'Mokum'.IMAGE LINK: https://flic.kr/p/2ib44vt
#5 And of course in the Netherlands there's no escaping him...IMAGE LINK: https://flic.kr/p/2ib2UCK
#6 Sometimes it's a good idea to look up. A giant faucet high up on a wall and for no apparent reason...IMAGE LINK: https://flic.kr/p/2iaZzgK
#7 This is a panorama of one of the eastern Harbour islands. The long buildings are old storehouses turned into living quarters. I should have photographed them from the other side really to show that these buildings bear the names of the days of the week: Sunday, Monday, etc...
I shot this against the setting sun as you can clearly see. IMAGE LINK: https://flic.kr/p/2ib432G
#8 I thought it a good idea to take Nifty into the supermarket. Well, I did and took a test shot. As I was checking the histogram one of the store's lackeys hurried towards me and informed me I was not allowed to take pictures. So all I have is this one test shot. I do wonder what it is they are afraid of though... IMAGE LINK: https://flic.kr/p/2iaZyaw
