I've also looked at many -too many:confused:- samples from both of these bodies; funny how everyone's eyes perceives differently but to mine, I like the contrast, color, and depth coming from both the 5D III -and even the II (lower ISOs)- over the 6D (though I do see the 6D's super-clean at jacked ISOs). However, I've also handled both recently and do like the 6D in the hand better (felt closer to its 60D brethren). But, the 5D III's components just felt and looked more high-quality overall and was not too heavy or big (something I was concerned about having shot with the 60D last few years). I think the 5D III will provide good balance with the heavier lenses. In the end, I'm going to save for the 5D III as I'll use it for plenty of moving objects which its auto-focus system is more prime for.

Do you want to exploit the advantage of the full frame (narrow DOF for creative shots, women's portrait shots with sharp eyes but smooth skin, etc) using fast glasses (for example 135 f/2 L or 200 f/2.8L or 70-200 at 200 f/2.8 or 50mmm f/1.4 or 1.2 etc)? If you like fast glasses the really perfect outer focus points are a must. And the spot focus points are very very useful too - I always use them when shooting portraits: I put the tiny little point onto the center of the eye). So if you use fast glasses, 5D Mark III is the answer.

I don't agree that this is essential, the 6D's outer focus points work pretty well if the surface is textured enough for it to grab vertical lines. And you can always use the centre point and recompose.

Bought a 6d from Amazon this morning, it will be here on Wednesday and I'll be able to give you my assessment of the body within a day or two. I'll be able to shoot some sports, outdoor track after dark. So hopefully it will be favorable to that type of shooting.

Does anyone have experience of the 5d3 vs 6d in terms of centre focus point only?

In low light, how much of a difference does LV -2 vs -3 actually make?

What is the 1Dx rated at, for the centre focus point?

Given the huge price difference and the main difference being the AF, I'm thinking of the 6d. I can deal with having to focus-recompose if necessary, using the centre AF point.

The 1Dx basically uses the same AF system as the 5D3, so I'm guessing both go as low as -2 EV. If you don't mind using focus&recompose and only care about the center AF point, the 6D is in my opinion the way to go.

That's what I'm thinking too - especially as a used 5d2 goes for about the same as a new 6d...

I spent a few month trying to decide which way to go as well. I made the decision to go with the 5D3 and received it yesterday. All I can say is this thing is amazing. I have been using a 7D for a couple of years and there will be a learning curve to go through with the 5D3.

Is the ISO performance better on the 6D or the 5DIII?

The 6d, I believe.

If you had to pick a winner it would be the 6D, but its basically so close that you wont notice a difference in real world use.

Thanks. After reading about these cameras I had the feeling the 6D would be better at ISO.

I read somewhere that the 6D is about a third of a stop better than the 5D3 at high ISO.

Kind of. A few days ago, I was thinking about the 6D again, since it is cheap now and the IQ is slightly better. Also the price of the 5D3 doesn't seem to drop over here. It's just so hard to justify the price of the 5D3 even though I want its AF system so badly. I should go to a store one day and hold both to see how they feel in my hand, but I don't really have time for that now...
