Guitarfreak: It looks to be a pretty nice campus. And I bet the insides of those suites is a lot nicer than the dorms were back when I went to college. ;)

Eh, the campus is alright. Nothing fancy really. Lots of construction going on now though, so I'm sure it'll look better in a few years. The suites are quite nice actually. I've heard they have really thin walls though.

A nationally televised concert is held on the river every year on Bevrijdingsdag (Liberation Day). The rowing races Head of the River Amstel and Heineken Roeivierkamp ("rowing foursome"??) are held on the river annually.
[..]
#1 The Amstel River really deserves some good light and a blue sky, but none were available today and with Nifty I obviously can't wait for better conditions, so this will have to do. Taken from the Berlage Brug in Amsterdam-South and facing north. A stitch of 3 images.

Hey that's my spot :D I shot hundreds if not thousands of pictures from this bridge of the rowing races.

This is what the river looks like a few kilometers outside of the city, shot in between races 1,5 weeks ago:

(hope I don't get banned for posting shots not made by nifty :P )

The boathouse on the right belongs to a rowing organisation that is not a club :) It's owned by the city and anyone can sign up to take rowing lessons. There is 3 student rowing clubs in Amsterdam, one of them is the building on the left side in this picture. Then there is a big number of non-student rowing clubs, the white building exactly in the middle of the picture(in the distance) is one of them. The 4 dark spots are the open doors to their boathouse.
So basically this picture includes 3 boathouses :)

Cool! It makes for a neat contrast to see the river not far from the city.

That is cool indeed, MPCman!! The video and the additional information is a great contribution. Thank you so much for that.

I do know that rowing is popular here in the city. In Spring and Summer there is a lot of rowing going on in the canal below my windows and the yearly Shallop Race always comes by my windows as well: big boats with 8 or more rowers and a steersman (or woman!) from all over the country. Now I don't know about the rest of the country, but Amsterdam sure likes boating!! :)

I plan to take Nifty out for one last grand tour and then send him on. I want to wait until next weekend though as then the Rijksmuseum will be open again after a 10 year renovation. Press reviews are cheering and I can't wait to get in. Don't know if I can though as I'm sure the whole of the country will want in, but I'm going to try very hard.
So, until then, here's some more from earlier trips. If that is all right?

Sine it looks like I'm next on the list, I would have no problem with you holding on to EU-nifty for a week longer, at the moment I'm in Germany and next week I'll be in Sweeden, so I dont mind having to wait a week longer.

We just got the heaviest rain I've ever seen here. It was pretty awesome. I wish I would have grabbed nifty 5 minutes sooner.

At the heaviest, you could just barely make out the top of the light.

If it's not raining tomorrow, I'm going to get some more pictures from around campus.

Well, you weren't lying when you said you shoot all the races from the Berlage Brug! Good video and another great look at the river.

By the way, where did you film that Kingfisher? :)

That's shot from my living room, through the open balcony door. 400mm in full hd resolution cropped down to a very low resolution. I've seen one or both of them almost on a daily basis last summer, last time I saw one was a few weeks ago, at least at that time one had survived the winter.

That's funny.. it's the first bird I saw in the video!
I still cannot get a decent Kingfisher shot
They are jittery and yet I've seen such stellar shots of them in the bird forum!!

Nice videos Pieter..

Guys, I have some really bad news. Someone broke into my apartment and stole my laptop and camera with nifty on it. I have tracking software on my laptop and we filed a police report, so we'll see what happens. I'm really sorry. This is absolutely awful :(

that's not good - hope you get your stuff back. At least you weren't home, things could be a lot worse...

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

That is aweful. I can't stand thieves, you worked hard to get all of the stuff. I hope they find he person/people responsible.

That's really bad, GuitarFreak. I hope you get your stuff and Nifty back!

I made tons of photos with Nifty this weekend and now have to process them. However, seeing as I'm beat right now, it will probably be tomorrow before I can upload something.

I have one more trip planned for later this week and then I will send Nifty on. Hopefully before the weekend.

But what a bummer to have one's gear stolen...
