Will the quality be noticeable with 6D over T5i

Shooting with my T3i I'm satisified with the quality is produces, only thing holding me back is my lens. I can switch over to the T5i for the extra bit of features it has + it being new, and get a couple or few nice lenses and I'd be happy.

With the 6D there is only one lens that is suiteable for my liking. With Image Stabilization, constant aperature of F/2.8, with a bit of zoom.. that is the Tamrom 24-70. With this lens + body combo I'm already looking at about $3k. Also keeping in mind I do shoot videos so the IS is helpful.


For day time shooting a nice lens + T5i I know will get what I want. The only thing is lower light.

The only reason I'd really be buying the 6D for is because of the better low light ISO performance. Which is still a pretty big reason but just not sure if it's worth it. I can always get a lens with a wider aperature to compensate for the not as good ISO performance on T5i = shooting in lower ISO. whenever shooting in lower light.


Looking for some thoughts on this.
90% of my shooting is planned so I can always adjust, I'm just not sure how much better the 6D ISO performance is. If it is amazing, then I will have to consider the 6D in that case.. but then it limits me to 1 lens with my budget (for the time being), which is still ok with me. I also have a spare 50mm II

Coming from a 500d then a 60d to the 6d I can tell you if high ISO performance is your main criteria then the 6d is your best choice. I am blown away by the quality of images I'm getting with the 6d at ISO 25600.

There is more to full-frame than high-ISO noise performance. If that is all you want, save some money and pick up a used 5D for about $500. Of course you spend several times that acquiring lenses. Some of the best lenses on the market are EF-s models: 10-22, 17-55 & 15-85. You'll spend more than twice as much to get the same IQ out of EF glass.

The 6D will be quite a bit better than the 5D classic for high ISO. The 5D is a great camera, but it is not a high ISO machine, 3200 is acceptable, but push it enough to bring up the shadows digitally, and you end up with something that any modern crop can beat (and obviously any FF since). It has other redeeming IQ qualities however.

EXACTLY. Full frame costs more than just the body - to take advantage of what the sensor can do you need to put better glass on it. Don't get me wrong, if you want the best possible IQ then FF is the way to go - but it is very expensive to get that extra 20% in image quality. The high ISO will be better, but unless you are shooting performances where you can't use flash then you can get great results using a flash rather than pushing ISO. In fact, flash will allow you to control the light better, and will often be more flattering then ambient - as long as you know some basic principles.

Yes, the ISO of the 6d will be THAT much better. How does usable 12800 sound? Cause that's what it is

If your skill and knowledge base are up to getting good images out of your existing body then you may see some improvement with the newer body. If not, then possibly not.

I wanted a 7D then a 60D as I have a 600D and felt my images were lacking something. I bought a Tamron 70-300 VC and I can tell you now, the change in image quality is night and day.

If you already have a T3i, then you have all you need in a crop body. If you need more AF speed or higher flash sync, then youre better off upgrading to a 60D or a 7D. The only real reason to consider the T5i is the touch screen capability (which imho, is very cool). Otherwise, Id say, save your money for the good glass.

As far as the iso/ noise/ low light capability of the 6D, Yes. As in, yes, the 6D kicks butt when it comes to low light, high ISO, low noise capability. Actually, pretty much all full frame cameras will be better in those situations over the crops. The 6D however has the distinction of having close to the best low light, high iso, low noise functionality; the only thing beating it is the 1DX, and that is a full-on-balls-to-the-wall uber bonkers pro-grade body. I can tell you rigt now, even with the 24-105 f4 kit lens that the low light shooting is pretty darn good, so its safe to guess puttin on a faster glass will only make things even better.

Trust, it is worth it.

We told you about anything you buy would be better than the 75-300.

That kind of difference isn't going to seen in every lens "upgrade" though.

I shot my niece's piano recital at ISO 8000 with my 6D, and there was no visible noise. Mindblowing.

The biggest benefit of full frame is sharpness. As the sensor size is a lot less demanding on lenses. The sharpness advantage of full frame will be apparent in almost everything you shoot. The 10-22mm and 15-85mm are just as good as full frame L lenses, the 15-85mm performs as well as the 24-105mm on a crop, and the 10-22mm is actually optically better than a 17-40mm. But put these lenses on a full frame body and you immediately notice better sharpness.
The next benefit is high ISO noise and shadow detail noise. ISO 12800 on a 6D looks as good as ISO 3200 does on my 7D. You can pretty much shoot in candle light with ISO 12800 and a f/1.4 lens and get good results!
There are some depth of field benefits, although with a f/1.4 lens nobody is complaining about a lack of bokeh on either crop or full frame.

My 6d even makes my el-crappo 28-135mm rattle trap lens look sharp and that's saying something!

Buy the 6D/ kit lens package, and you cover the bases. And if you dont like the lens, you can sell it off, and get something else
