Scrumhalf Cream of the Crop More info | Apr 12, 2013 11:12 | #497 Srika, one more question - when you do your 3 shot HDR with 0, +2 and -2, do you just put your camera in fast multi-shot mode and shoot the bracketed exposures handheld to minimize movement between shots, or do you use a tripod? Sam

Honestly I don't use a tripod too much. I didn't even own one until 3 years ago. I like using the environment for stability and framing. For this shot I just placed the camera up to that opening, got it as straight as possible, and then held the shutter down for the 3 exposures, as steady as possible. Ideally you should set the 2-second timer before you do this, as it then takes the 3 exposures in succession and you can ensure as little movement as possible. I had faith in the structure (no movement) and my own stability so I did it that way. raѕιdel ѕlιĸa f l i c k r

You bring up a good point I didn't mention before, and that is for multi-frame exposure HDR's stability is paramount for the sharpest photos - no amount of sharpening can help you get sharp photos if your original images aren't sharp. Kind of obvious there but a good reminder nonetheless. I like to use mirror lock up, 2 second delay and a remote release when the camera is on a tripod or placed on a solid piece of the environment, HDR or not. I prefer to to use high speed continuous for HDR period. I will hand hold for fast shutter speeds when doing HDR.

Apr 12, 2013 14:08 | #502 good points on the mirror lockup, remote release and high-speed continuous. those are definitely steps you can take to ensure the shots are as sharp as possible. raѕιdel ѕlιĸa f l i c k r

Scrumhalf Cream of the Crop More info | Apr 12, 2013 14:47 | #504 Srika and 2nd10, thanks for the inputs. The only HDR I have shot, just for the hell of it, is this 3 shot bracketed combination of Mt. Hood. It was +/-1 EV, if I remember right. I shot it handheld on high speed continuous. I didn't do mirror lockup or remote shutter or anything else, since I was handheld.. in fact the only thing I did to minimize differences between the 3 exposures was firing off the shots as close together as possible. Not the greatest of photos but it whetted my appetite to do a better HDR job next time. Mt. Hood from Jackson Bottom Wetlands, Hillsboro OR Sam
