Is there a limit on how many exposures/photos a camera can take before it goes "dead"?

Many times the shutters can be replaced several times before the camera fails. Depending on the camera the shutter is expected to fail after 100,000 activations or more.

Some are easily replaceable while others aren't and there's no way of knowing when one will fail. It can fail in 300 shots or 300,000, so it's a good thing to get insurance. It's cheap anyways...plan for the worst. - Alex Corona Sony A7, Canon 7DM2/EOS M, Mamiya 645/67

It varies. A good estimate is somewhere between 1 more and 1 million more shots than are already on it.

Apr 13, 2013 23:14 | #5 Some cameras can have unexpected long shutter life and others not so. The rental shop I use has a 5D-C with 220K actuations that is still in rotation.Typical users will get bored of the camera before it wears out or meets with some demise :water, impact...

I was quoting the number of shots before it died. I believe that you're quoting the shot number at which it dies. So we're both correct! Frank Hollis - Retired mass spectroscopist
