More landscapey stuff from me...

This was after a disasterous morning in Knole Park, fortunately on the way back spotted a view which I had been wanting to photograph for a while just outside Tunbridge Wells...

And this was Friday night in Rottingdean as I was looking after the dog for the week at my parents place, literaly had mins to spare to try and get to a vantage point and get a shot. Its a view just down from ST Dunstans over looking the coast road and Brighton.

I am going to have a go tomorrow with a friends horse

As far as I can see you want the horse lighter than the background, so underexpose for the background and use a flash or similar to light the horse, play around with a softbox with or without a grid to control which bits of the horse you are lighting

Underexpose and light it up!
You may need ND filters to keep the DoF you want with the Sync speed you need also.
High-speed sync may not give you enough power.

quick way to test go outside and underexpose as much as you can bearing in mind you max Sync speed, see how much light you can produce at working distance and use that as a starting point.

You can totally hire me to bring gear and work with you on that, it sound interesting! :)

to get a nice light quality may require big lights and boxes though. It depends...

LOL thanks guys - but unfortunately she's in Norfolk and it'd be while I'm on holiday - so no can do. I can't fit any more kit in the car, we're already struggling to get everything in even with the roofbox!
and I'm NOT buying anything else this year, so there :p:lol:

Adrian, let us know how you get on, sounds like you have a plan!!!

Definitely give it ago, you may just need to do it at sunset or you can multi-expose and bring it together in photoshop.

I really like the way your pushing your work forward BTW!
