Per Canonpricewatch.com, aSavings, an authorized reseller, had some very serious discounts on high end gear. To mention a few:

-EOS 5D Mark III with EF 24-105 IS Kit - $1599.00
-EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM II - $449.00
-EF 14mm f/2.8L II USM - $596.95

All those listings are currently closed. So, was this a way to generate some buzz? A rogue employee? You think other shops will follow the lead with these fire sales?

I believe it may have been a price mistake when they applied the rebates (incorrectly) this morning. Other notable "deals" were a 6D body-only for $1349 and the 600EX-RT for $449.

A few people managed to get orders in (myself included :)). We'll see if they honor the prices or send us cancellation e-mails. They are an authorized dealer and it is also through eBay, so I don't have any concerns as to their integrity.

What is going on lately with those crazy prices? I think it is a bad time for trying to sell your used cameras and lenses.

I saw that totally insane pricing on the 5D3 this morning and ignored at as either a typo or SCAM.

That is more than $1K less than other deals. I'd never heard of the place, which started with an "a" to position itself at the top of alpha advertising. Very suspect; probably bait and switch once they get you to phone in. STAY AWAY!! Remember - if it seems too good to be true, that's because it is  They're always looking for greedy people.

asavings is a reputable seller, both by their ratings, and by my experience. They are Focus Camera, an authorized Canon dealer. I've purchased from them before multiple times.
This was clearly a pricing/listing error. And since it's Ebay, and Paypal, you have protection (plus my AMEX card).
So I did it, but now 2 of the 3 lenses I bought have already been refunded, so no deal, but I'm not surprised at all that's exactly what I expected. But it was worth a try, there was no risk. This was absolutely different from buying from those shady Brooklyn stores, now those are really to stay away from. This Ebay "deal" had a risk factor of virtually 0.

Well then I stand corrected, and should not have labelled them as suspect scammers. Thanks for pointing thast out gabebalazs.

We've seen too many posts here where vendors will low-ball an ad just to get the phone calls and then try the old bait and switch. I guess I've just grown cynical and suspicious in my old age.

This screamed "too good to be true" but yet I thought that, since they were only selling a few (less than 10) of each item, they were doing this to bring attention to their business. Guess not. Oh well.

The funny thing was that I created notifications for these products through canonpricewatch.com just a few days ago. I created really lowball amounts to be notified on, thinking that it would take some time to get there, and by then I'd be ready to purchase. Serves me!
