No, unfortunately I had to be elsewhere at that time. Only arrived at 2 or 2.30 or so. But what a gorgeous photograph that is, isn't it? Knowing the scene he must have had the best spot there to be able to take that. And he is obviously very good at this stuff. My shots are definitely no match for that... :)

As of Today April 15 2013

At present we would like anyone wishing to host have at least a 200 post count or have been active on POTN for a year. Hopefully this will reduce the number of people that do not participate in a timely manner, or "forget" to move Nifty on to the next host, or simply don't care.

Guys, I have some really bad news. Someone broke into my apartment and stole my laptop and camera with nifty on it. I have tracking software on my laptop and we filed a police report, so we'll see what happens. I'm really sorry. This is absolutely awful :(

Hopefully everything will be found together at a pawn shop or on Craig's List..

Saturday and yesterday we were finally having Spring. After an endless Winter there was sun and yesterday I could even be outside without my coat on! And on both days I went out with Nifty. Now I had planned to process the shots today but the weather was wonderful again and I so much wanted to be outside and see the birds that I did. I apologize for the delay, but if all goes well I should be able to post some Rijksmuseum shots later this evening.

What cool buildings Julie and Levina. The Nemo especially is just fascinating and somewhere I'd love to visit.

Sorry for a long gap in postings. I accidentally formatted a memory card half-full of nifty images. I've spent the last week trying to recreate the shots I erased, but sadly couldn't get to most of them. I'd love to still get to some of the missing shots, but I think I've had Nifty for more than my fair share of time and have contacted the next on the list to move it along. Maybe next time...

Aside from the outdoor activities, Bend is known as (or at least considers itself) a microbrewery hotspot. We have the most commercial microbreweries per capita in the US (I just made that up, but it could be true). Sorry Vermont. We don't just have a bunch of guys making some swill in their garage either. Almost all our breweries have won awards of some sort and have a brew-pub in town.

We have a challenge of sorts called the Ale-Trail, where you go around and hit all the established breweries. Once you've hit them all you get a commemorative Silipint (a pint glass made of silicon). I've tried to get around to all the breweries as a Nifty-Ale-Trail, but only managed about half of them.

#1 - The big player, Deschutes, is distributed internationally, but still get's lots of respect from locals for the small batch brews that are only available in their public houses. This is their brewery, but their pub is in the downtown.

#2 - GoodLife is relatively new to Bend, but has gained a big following.

#3 - 10 Barrel is on a main street in the trendy part of town and during the summer has twice as much outdoor seating as indoor, and is totally packed.

#4 - Bend Brewery is in the downtown and its patio seating looks over Mirror Pond. Very warm and inviting place during the winter, although it seems a bit outdated compared to many of the other breweries in town.

#5 - Crux is one of several brand new additions to the brewery scene here. Very cool brew-pub, and even though it backs the freeway, the mountain views make it a really relaxing place to eat.

#6 - Cascade Lakes I think is the second oldest brewery in town (Deschutes being the oldest), and even though this is their flagship public house, their brewery is in a neighboring town called Redmond.

#7 - Silver Moon has some of the best beer in town, but their location leaves much to be desired. The interior is nice, but they are practically under the freeway and I don't think offer any outdoor seating (a must in Bend). I'd give Silver Moon second place in terms of beer quality.

IMG NOTICE: [NOT AN IMAGE URL, NOT RENDERED INLINE]

#8 - Brew Werks specializes in German style beers, and is the only place in town that I know of that hosts beers from other breweries. It's sort of unusual but also very cool since all their host brews are from out of town microbreweries and get rotated frequently.
IMG NOTICE: [NOT AN IMAGE URL, NOT RENDERED INLINE]

#9 - Boneyard is the most bare-bones (sorry) brewery in town, as they operate out of this former auto-shop, and only have a small tasting room as opposed to a full-on public house. However, they have the BEST beer in town, in my opinion. They don't have a large selection, and they don't bottle their beer, but maybe this narrow focus is why their beer is so good.

#10 - You can't live in Bend and not own at least one growler. The big one on the left is the elaborate jug that Deschutes sells. The smaller one is Boneyard's "growlette" and is perfect for people like me who don't want to drink four beers in a day.

Yes, you're right. Sorry, I just copied the last list that Joayne had posted. Should be up-to-date now.

Yeah. I've been keeping an eye on craigslist. No luck yet.

Thankfully, my stuff was covered under insurance. I'll replace nifty when that money comes in. Too bad I won't have a camera to give you guys more pictures :( Things are just starting to bloom here too, and it would have been really nice.
