The 5D is a great camera and my point of view was always to spend money on the lenses rather than the camera. That is why I invested in lenses (latest being the 50mm 1.2) and have had a great time taking pictures with the 5D. My only reason to potentially upgrade would have been for newer technology and potentially higher image quality...

Valid and honest reasons! Go for it. Also, a new body will most likely inspire you and you will shoot more, especially as you learn the camera and become fluent with it.

If you do a lot of landscapes/seascapes etc I would upgrade to a 5dII or 6d just for the live view with 10x zoom for precise manual focus. That was my reason for upgrading from the 5d to 5dII.

Yes. You should.

I haven't seen your pictures, but I'm sure they look like they haven't been shot with a latest generation camera.

5Dc is obsolete at this point. The next generation of sensors would give you a higher dynamic range, which is pretty much the most important point with landscape photography. It sells for 400 bucks for a reason.

This is a load of crap. There has been very little meaning you won't see any difference in DR between the 5d and 6d.

So tell me what separates the landscape shots of the 6d and the 5d. I can line up 10 images and I bet you would have zero knowledge which were taken with the 5d and which were taken with the 6d.

Stop spewing garbage.

And yet more elitist BS! I don't do it the way you do it, therefore I am wrong. OK, I'll buy that. If it makes you happy, I'm wrong. I will immediately stop enjoying my film camera, my 60D and my 5D, my collection and lenses and flash guns and even my lights and umbrellas. Please inform me, O Wise One, which camera can I buy that will make you happy? I am eagerly awaiting your sage advice on what makes someone you've never met happy.

TSchrief, I totally agree with you. This guy is a bunch of crock. I still shoot a lot of B&W 6x9 and 4x5 film that totally blows the door of my 5d2 in B&W. Mr. Frankenstein just doesn't understand due to ignorance and thinks the way to better photos is to buy the latest greatest gear. Give me a break.

(The bold part it mine) :o

Really...put up or shut up. Where are these better landscape photos a 6d could capture and a 5d could not. Should be easy to find them...right?

Poor excuse to buy a new toy. What happens when the smell of the new camera wears off...buy another to get inspired.

Treat gear as tools and use your vision to guide your photography, not the other way around.

Wow. This has been painful to read. I just upgraded, T2i to 7D, not the same ballpark, I know, but it was a worthy move. The 7D makes up for everything the T2i lacked, but still feels homey and familiar. I can imagine that a move from a 5Dc to a 5D2 would be quite similar, but you would end up gaining way, way more then you would be leaving behind.

The 5D original garnered the "classic" title for being the first of its kind and having a very film-like quality to its images, but the real classic will be the 5D2. Look at how many movies and television shows have been shot with it. And the images it produces are so different than anything that came before it, and it still stands apart from everything that has come after it. Its different. You know 5D2 images when you see them. They have a quality that other cameras don't. I don't know what it is, I just know it when I see it.

Now take all that, add a focusing system that appears to be dead on and takes the image a step beyond the mark 2's haze into a realm of crystal clarity, add a few more fps and some ridiculous leaps and bounds in ISO, and you have the 5D3. I cannot wait to see feature films that have been shot with this camera. I can't wait to see how far some of you folks push this body in the imaging field.

What it boils down to though OP, is what you want. All we can do is offer opinions. Go rent one of the newer bodies. See if it improves your shots like you imagine it would. If it does, buy it. If not, you have a great camera--shoot it 'til the shutter falls off.

What you are missing in your assessment is what the OP shoots which is landscape photos so all that fancy TV shows shot with the 5d2 and the wizbang focusing of the 5d3 means beans when it comes to landscape photos. To me the only upgrade I would even contempt would be to either a 5d2 or totally move over to the d800 system. Going to a 6d or 5d3 for shooting landscapes would be a waste of unnecessary $$$$.

If they didn't improve the sensor, why would canon release a new camera?

And it's not nice to tell someone to shut up. Have YOU tested both cameras side by side and can't see a difference at 100% zoom?

I don't know, Canon seems to be rolling out new bodies with the same 18mp APS-C sensor...

Didnt' see it listed above. But unless you want to shoot at higher iso's then it would be tough to think of a reason to switch. The other reason would be moving targets needing a better focus system
so if you are doing any non strobe outdoor work you might get some extra time to shoot.

Short answer - No, not in the Canonland.

Long answer - 5D2/5D3/6D give negligible advantage over the 5D classic for landscape. Dump everything for D800 + Zeiss 21 or the legendary 14-24. MP and DR alone are more than enough reason to make the switch.
