I have a canon 60D and I'm going to be doing a road trip this summer, budget for new lens $2k. I'm looking for a walk around lens with a wide angle for landscapes and inside buildings. Here is some of the lenses I'm looking at, in particular order.

Canon 16-35 f/2.8
Canon 17-55mm f/2.8
Canon 24-70 f/2.8
Canon 24-105 f/4

I would like to hear some differing opinions and ideas please.

well all I can say is I love my 24-105L however... indoors I HAVE to use a flash.
so if you wish no flash or something better in lower light id say a 2.8 is a must then...

First of all, none that you listed are really that wide.

Out of the ones you listed, 17-55.

16-35II is a waste, not to mention no IS.

Personally, I'd go 10-22 + travel tripod, or even the 15-85 if 15mm is wide enough for you.

Yeah get something like the 10-22 or the 17-55, if you upgrade to FF then think about the 16-35, 17-40.

Just now, if I were you, Id have a 10-22, that's just me though.

Forget FF lenses. Go 15-85. And get 10-22 if you want wider. You'll have money left over, too.

you could get an UWA and a 17-55IS for $2,000

you'd have a good kit, UWA, 17-55IS, 70-200mm f2.8

if it were me, i'd throw in a wider prime...assuming you've already got a tripod

if I was travelling with a 60D I would get the 17-55 IS, it may be all you need, its a great travel lens, if you want UWA check Sigma's 10-20mm its a good UWA lens and affordable too :D

If it were me; and I do own a 60D, I would get exactly what I have, because for the cost of the Canon 17-55 you can get both the Sigma 10-20 & 17-50.

Hell for 2k You could get a sigma 17-50, canon 10-22, and the canon 15-85. I bet you would find you would use the 15-85 90% of the time but the other 2 would be nice to have. that setup would not be very heavy either. You could probably go used and go with sigma 10-20 implace of the canon. and maybe squeeze in a used sigma 30 1.4 as well. Alot of quality to be had for 2k on crop bodys.

but I guess for specifically what you are asking for I think the 15-85 with a flash is the only thing that is going to give you wide enough for indoors and still have a little tele.

If you are going to stay on a crop camera, then get the 17-55. Superb lens. Add the 10-22 if you want to go wider. Even if you are going FF in the future, you should be able to sell them for minimal loss if you buy used.

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

I guess I am going to be the odd duck. But since you already have the 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM, I would get the 24-70mm f2.8 II. Of this I have no doubt.:D
These two lens' may be the best lens Canon has in the line. Certainly they take no back seat and will be with you for a long, long time. Bodies come and go but lens' are where it's at. If you stay crop, fine if you go 1D (something) or FF, still they will be there.

Sigma 10-20 you can get one for around 320$ used. This was the only lens I brought on my last road trip to Boston 3 weeks ago. I wanted to bring the 18-135 but didn't feel like changing lenses lol. I was extremely happy with the shots! def my favorite lens now
