this was a project for a friend of mine.
this isn't actually the before image, its just a picture my friend took (cause im the one in the picture) to show the location.
this is my first time using different tools in photoshop, because i prefer to work with lr for typical shots which doesn't require much ajustments.
anyway:

Maybe you should start reading the intro of this thread...this is about RAW processing only - no Photoshop!

I would also recommend adding a sky background, and possibly some out of focus houses/fences etc... :)

I started playing with LR5 Beta this week. I think the overall performance is on par with LR4 but the added features are really cool. I like the new healing brush and that you can create "smart previews" that allow you to work on images that are "offline".

The healing brush is quite cool. Looks like they took it straight out of Photoshop CS6. The perspective corrections are awesome. Much easier than the current functions and even better than what's in CS6 right now.

Hoping for more additional features in Beta2 and the final product.

Cheers.

Been playing with it a little and so far so good.

It can only get better, in which case let's hope RC is not too far off.

Another portrait edit done entirely in Lightroom.

This was taken while at Photoshop World Orlando 2013. I had a friend in from out of town spending the week with me at the conference. She's a great natural-light photographer (better than me in natural light) but her experience with off-camera lights has been very minimal. So I brought my Speedlights and accessories along with me, and put out a little informal casting call on Facebook to find a model. My friend Cheryl came out to play in her Viking Warrior Princess costume. :) This is later in the evening, in the dark parking lot behind the hotel. Two lights, one Speedlight in umbrella to camera left, one bare Speedlight to the right behind the subject. Custom white balance was already set in the camera for the umbrella temp; the bare light is slightly cooler.

Process:
1. Set the white and black points. Shiny surfaces of the helmet are right at clipping, with some parts allowed to clip; I'll selectively bring them back later. Black background is just starting to clip.
2. Bumped up Exposure by about half a stop and Highlights by +15. Then a few further global adjustments, +5 Clarity, -5 Vibrance, +5 Saturation. Very minor stuff, really.
3. Used the Lightroom preset for Sharpen - Faces to set the capture sharpening.
4. Cropped in just a little bit.

The heavy lifting was done with the adjustment brush and spot removal tools:
5. Used Spot Removal on Heal setting to clean up all the little imperfections and bumps. At a glance of the tool overlay, looks like I used it about three dozen times.
6. Brushed on most of the face with the Soften Skin preset, with Clarity tweaked down from -100 to -50 (-100 is almost always way too much, that's a silly number to put in the preset)
7. Brushed on with the Dodge (lighten) preset to many objectionable dark areas - under the eyes, the darkest part of the shadow on the cheek (camera left), the "smile" crease to camera right of her mouth
8. Brushed on a little more negative Clarity on selected areas to minimize skin tone variation and shadows
9. Did some fine tuning with very small bush to further minimize the "smile" crease on camera right of the mouth
10. Brightened the teeth with a quick swipe of the brush set to "Teeth Whitening" preset
11. Did a quick swipe over the irises with the "Iris Enhance" preset
12. Did a tiny adjustment on the lips with some negative Clarity and a very slightly saturated pink color
13. Brushed over the brightest parts of the helmet (camera right) with -0.60 Exposure, -45 Highlights, +25 Clarity
