Thanks to all the terrific images posted here, mine's on the brown truck and should be arriving around 7:00pm or so. I hope to contribute to this topic soon.

I'll be leaving on a driving trip across the country next Tues. so I'll have a few days to play with it...and dial in focus before I leave.

Have a fun trip Gene! I am thinking of adding this lens as well.

I'm looking to buy this lens and I will have it shipped from B&H to Hawaii if I do. Scared to buy outside of Canon. What are the issues with the lens, I heard of focusing problems. Is that it? How bad is the issue?

I was really worried but, wanted to try this lens. Got it this morning. Took it to work and shot a few quick pics. Man, am I glad I bought this lens! Both shot at 1.4:

Thanks!! I've been working on that one a lot lately ; ) Finally have a few presets I've saved in Aperture that get me close depending on the photo.

As for kipliq's question, I think the only knock you will find on this lens, which doesn't seem to be too terribly prevalent but definitely exists with some users on these boards (myself included with my 1st copy) is inconsistency with the AF. This inconsistency is usually described as the lens requiring different micro-adjust settings depending on the lighting, or distance of your subject. For example, my first copy required +10 indoors, but then outdoors it was perfect, so shooting at +10 outdoors led to slightly blurry subjects. Others have experienced the issue with distances as well, meaning if you are shooting close subjects the lens might require +7, but then far away objects it misses focus there. Overall my 2nd copy is much improved, but still not a perfect AF at 1.4. Overall though the sharpness and rendering characteristics are causing me to keep the lens in spite of AF issues, because it's that good.

Thanks all for the kind comments but it really makes me feel uncomfortable, as there are so many great photographers around here. Just trying my best to contribute to this nice thread :)

The thread just got bumped up a notch with Daniel contributing on the regular. I'm happy I get to stop stalking the 35L thread to see your work. Glad to see you on here and looking forward to what you can do with this lens.

Have been looking at this thread for days. Can't decide if I want to sell my 17-40 and 40 stm to pick this up or wait a bit and buy it to add to collection. I think if I didn't find out we are expecting a child I would have bought it already lol.

17-40 has been just sitting around since I got the 24-105 and the 17-40 is only 5 months old.
