Honestly, if I didn have the 1.8 II and in the market for a 50, I would go straight for the 50 1.4.

The better build/size, USM(although not true USM) and full time manual is enough for my decision.

Two and five are the best to me. As a girl, I would not prefer three because I wouldn't like the angle (too much thigh) but that's probably my sensitivity to the subject. Number one is nice for lighting.

Lisa from the Natural light thread recently bought a 50L and she regret she sold her 50 F1.4 too soon because the L version she got has focus shift issue.

For me, the short focus throw on the 50/1.4 was not long enough to ever use FTM, the 50/1.8 II focus throw is a joke and so is the focus ring... now the 50/1.8 mk I is where its at

I would definitely jump for a 50 1.4 if you get the chance. I'm trying to sell some stuff to fund my 3rd backup body the 5Dc + 50 1.4. I really want this combo and I miss my 50 1.4.

I got the chance...and took it. I have it on my 5Dc, however this thing is also tack sharp with a little more reach on my 60D. Picked it up new for 339.00 and got a free canon hood for it. The question is why did I wait so long?

Now it's time to sell off a few lenses which will never be used, including my beloved tamron 17-50 non VC and a couple of well used 1.8 mark 1's. Gotta pay for this lens, after all!
