It requires Windows Vista or above. Couldn't install it.

You're using an OS that's more than 6 years old?

All of our work computers are xp. We use software from the 90's yet. The Windows 7 on a few of the computers is killing us. We just don't have a budget for yearly upgrades.

Linking or giving information about any site that distributes illegal software, ROMs, media, or emulators, seeking help to circumvent any copyright laws, admitting to possessing and/or distributing illegal copyrighted material, or encouraging software or media piracy is grounds for an immediate ban.

^^^

Isn't magiclatern a lot of the above? Yet it's approved as solicitation? I am just being inquisitive, not trying to persuade or condone. Just asking for clarification.

I like progressive improvements to software, even if sometimes it costs money for marginal gains. If we always had to wait on HUGE improvements, we could always shoot with pentax.

You dont need yearly upgrades. you only need to upgrade once every 4 years at least

tried the trial version of LR4 - my pc could not handle it smoothly
just trying to slide any of the slider had a horrible delay

the beta of LR5 is a lot smoother

I'm hoping it stays the same with the final release.
I'll have to wait until there's a trial version and see if my pc can handle it

For what software? Many of our work software licenses need to be renewed yearly. I still have to support 1 Windows 98 computer as the prom burning software requires dos.

LR5 is awesome! I cannot live without this. I don't photoshop but use LR for a lot of my culling, cropping and straightening of images.

old post and you possibly don't care, but I am curious if you've tried DOS-Box with it on a modern system.

if you're too cheap to upgrade your software i can't believe your going to be buying new cameras..... I mean, new cameras are a ploy to force you into new software, right?

I don't understand why people complain so much about progress, innovation, change, etc....always have complained about it, always will. it's funny in a sad way.

Hang on a mo, other company's give updates for raw conversion of new camera, without you needing to buy the latest software to use the converter

Apple regularly update their raw codecs for new cameras, but the do not say you must buy the latest version of aperture to use them.

Adobe basically just force you to keep paying over and over again.

if one doesn't care about the new software, which IMO is what the charge is for, why not just use adobe camera raw?

If that doesn't suit you, thank god we have choices, buy something else. I never understand the need to complain about things when you have choices.....

Good grief, LR is cheap software. There are several improvements to LR5 that make it an easy upgrade choice for me. But, even if I wasn't at all impressed with the upgrade I'd do it anyway - with pleasure - simply because the software is so cheap. But, I don't believe any of the "I'm gonna pass" blustery posters: they're gonna buy the upgrade too. There are always complainers that complain about upgrades and how unimpressed they are with it. Always. Let's just cut to the chase, shall we? When LR6, LR7, LR8, etc. is announced the same sort of unimpressed people will be complaining that its just a .5 release, not a full upgrade and announcing their plans to pass. Broken record.

A couple of posts in this thread appear to suggest/condone software piracy. I'm hoping I just misinterpreted that. But if anyone wants to come out and clarify that they do support/condone obtaining software, like LR, via illegal means, please do so I can report you. POTN is, thankfully, has no tolerance for anyone condoning piracy.

David Arbogast wrote in post #15850075 (external link)
I said nothing about reporting anyone for expressing an innocent opinion. Opinions are welcome...including mine by the way. But what isn't welcome is anyone condoning software piracy. Apparently you've not acquainted yourself with the forum rules regarding that, so let me help:

Linking or giving information about any site that distributes illegal software, ROMs, media, or emulators, seeking help to circumvent any copyright laws, admitting to possessing and/or distributing illegal copyrighted material, or encouraging software or media piracy is grounds for an immediate ban.

So, Ginga, how about it. Do you want to encourage software piracy? Is software piracy OK in your book? Do you think I'm wrong to report anyone who condones software piracy? Do you feel that POTN is a North Korean forum for having a no-tolerance rule against those that condone piracy? Do you condone piracy?

Ill try my hardest to be polite here.

You are playing the role of thought police. And man, that is a bad place to be.

honestly, it doesnt matter if software piracy is ok is his book or not, nor should it matter if he says its ok in his book.

Well pyrojim, I guess you've just got a problem with the forum rules. I quoted them and you think I'm a bad guy for doing it. Sorry if you don't like it, but I'm opposed to stealing: whether it's image-theft or software piracy. If someone writes a post "encouraging software piracy" that's wrong. So, why am I getting villified by you and Ginga for being opposed to posts that encourage software piracy? Let's clear this up. Is it OK for people to write posts here that encourage software piracy? Maybe I'm wrong...let me know.

On this forum it matters, I don't care what you think and express it on a local bar, when you post it here it is on my domain and my rules. Let me paste our rule 2.8 from https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?p=353304 here, and please read the last sentence twice:

"Linking or giving information about any site that distributes illegal software, ROMs, media, or emulators, seeking help to circumvent any copyright laws, admitting to possessing and/or distributing illegal copyrighted material, or encouraging software or media piracy is grounds for an immediate ban."
