I am looking for a low profile arca swiss compatible monopod head.

Something like this would be great, but I do not need the ball head, so I was looking to see if there was something cheaper.

Any suggestions?

I can't help you with something less expensive but I have been doing some research along those lines. I just replaced all my Manfrotto RC2 quick release clamps and plates with the fine products from Kirk Enterprise Solutions. I ended up with Kirk because RRS doesn't make a one piece L bracket for my 60D with the grip attached.

Both RRS and Kirk have what appear to be superior monopod heads. They are both more expensive than the product you linked. Unfortunately, while you don't always get what you pay for, you seldom get that for which you don't pay. The last thing I have to replace is the head on my monopod and I will end up with one of the two I mentioned.

http://www.kirkphoto.com/Kirk_MPA-2_Monopod_Head.html (external link) A note on Kirk: I spent quite a bit of time talking to Gary at Kirk and he couldn't have been more helpful. I needed 3 clamps and a variety of plates for my change over. He was patient and was able to visualize what I was trying to accomplish.

Kim,

I really like the RRS and Kirk stuff that I own. I tend to purchase Kirk where possible because I can get it at my local camera store. That said, the MPA-2 is special order.

The other standard Monopod head I was looking at is from Hejnar.

Once I add a clamp to the Kessler Head, I am at at least the same price as the Kirk Monopod Head. I am leaning towards the Kirk, but I was hoping someone would know about a lower profile option.

BTW, I went through the RC2 to arca swap and it was absolutely worth it. I just wish someone had told me in the beginning to go directly to arca-swiss QR system. I have a Kirk adapter for my Manfrotto monopod head, but I have the Henjar adapters for my Manfrotto tripod heads.

Sirui L-10 monopod tilt head, similar in design to RRS, but I have not done direct comparison. I do not have any issues with a 1dIII/gripped 5d with 70-200 f/2.8/400 f/5.6. It is AS and have not issues with RRS, photoclam, and a Kirk plates

B&H and Adorama carry them, but do not have them out for you to play with.

EDITED: One negative that the Hejnar addresses is that the Sirui is stuck in only 1 orientation, while the Hejnar and the RSS can be rotated so you can use an L plate, and simple plate, or a lens foot and still be able to "pan" up and down. With the Sirui, if you use a L plate, you are stuck "panning" left and right or adding a nodal slide to change the orientation of the AS plate by 90 degrees to fit properly. Since I only use the lens foot with an AS plate attached for the monopod head and rotate using the collar, not an issue for me.

I am also using the Sirui L-10.
It's a steal @ about $100.00 with clamp and plate included. This is really well made stuff. Surprisingly competitive with products costing twice as much.

I've never had my hands on the Kirk, it's a little newer to the field than the RRS which set the design trend for these heads. The RRS is amazing, and would be worth the extra $$ if it's something your going to use a lot. My guess is the Kirk is the same in that regard.
But if you are looking to do this cheaper, I can recommend the Sirui for all but the most demanding situations.

I've never seen one like that. Looks like a high profile leveling head giving it more range of motion. Interesting

Can the QR clamp on the Siriu be rotated 90 degrees?

No, it cannot. For an L plate, I found that a nodal slide with a clamp works, but adds bulk.

No, it cannot.

Unfortunately, this would be a deal breaker for me. Unfortunately the price is great.

I just use a qr plate on top of mine. No head at all. Not sure why I would need one.

Photo please.

I do not understand how you would level the camera when doing angled dolly moves.

What this video to see why I use a monopod head.

He is using the Siriu!

Yep he is using a Sirui. He mentions specifically at 3:24 that you only need a 1 way tilt head. I no longer have the original AS plate, but I think it is a square bottom so you could mount the controller pointed in any direction and tilt to simply adjust for the incline after making sure your track is level.

Nice video on your site. I really like those time lapses done on a track
