I hope all still goes well with your granddaughter.......Joe

Going to visit the kids Sunday. Will throw the XSi in the bag and hopefully get a nice picture of her to post here. Physically, E' has ups and downs, but mentally she's 100%.

Reinheim: How do you like the 40mm pancake?

Hi, Nobody,
I like it a lot.....it is so small and on the crop sensor it approaches the 50mm lens which I have also, but the 40mm does not enlarge the image as much. And it is pretty sharp, etc. Lastly, the price is more than reasonable. I seem to be using it more and more. If I lived closer you could borrow it to try it out.
Also, you always have some neat images, thanks for sharing them....let me know if you take the plunge.....Joe

Thanks :)

I'm still debating if I should buy it, it looks really nice. And I want something wider than 50mm on ff. It would also be nice with the 450D those times I want something small and light.
I do really want a 35mm f/1.4, but they are a bit expensive (for a student anyway) over here. I'm thinking of picking up a 40mm 2.8 and (later) a 85mm f/1.8 instead. And maybe I can afford a 35mm f/1.4 one day...
I have been borrowing a Canon 50mm f/1.4 (for my 5D) since january, but I'm not falling in love with it. My plan was originally to buy one and be happy with it :p

I can appreciate your dilemma. I managed to pick up a Tamron 17-35 mm a while back (I don't think they are still in production) and it is fine with my Xsi and my 5D. As a student you have to purchase carefully, of course. Good luck in school and in your photography!

Here is another image taken in my backyard using the 40 mm. It is of a Photinia (or Red Tip as it is often called) flower ( a Spring bloom...).

Yes, it is so small....I think your 5D III is somewhat heavier than my 5D, so the weight difference with the little 40 mm is so great. Try using it on your5D III also....Joe
