Hi guys...I need to rotate a video...any suggestions for a good, reliable, simple, free program to do that?

Thanks!

Just out of curiosity, what do you mean by "rotate a video"? I never heard that before.

Well, I shot a star trails sequence of a scene, but I also converted the images into a time-lapse AVI. However, I shot it in portrait orientation, but my video output was landscape...so I need to rotate it 90 degrees CCW.

Here's the scene, by the way. ;)

Google how to rotate video from portrait to landscape. WIndows Movie maker seems to work.

Thanks, I'll do that...totally forgot about WMM...how do I save it as an AVI? Windows Movie Maker wants me to save it as a Windows Media Video (WMV) file...even though before the rotate it's an AVI.

Thanks,
T

Ya, Im not so sure. I remember looking into once for the wifey and an iphone video, but never got around to trying it. The inefficient way would be the use some video converter. Hopefully you have found your answer by now.

What you are wanting to do is not possible. You will either have to do major cropping, which will lose far too much of the photo, or have what is called 'pillar boxes' which are black boxes on both sides of the screen and a very small image.
All video must be shot in landscape mode.

No, I still haven't found one. :( There are a few programs available for download, but I'd like to get some recommendations...and Windows Movie Maker did it for me, but wants to save it in its proprietary format instead of the AVI it is to start out with...

I'm okay with the pillar boxes (as much as I *HATE* them on normal videos - ie: people with smart phones who record in portrait orientation -) this is just a "bonus" that came out of shooting star trails.

Thanks...if I go that route, would I have to upload, flip and then download my own video? Will the quality be affected much? I thought sites like that really compressed images/videos. I think YouTube flips videos too, but I was hoping to get a program to do it, rather than uploading/downloading to/from YouTube.

For the few video projects I've done, I've used Windows Movie Maker. You should be able to save to AVI in that too.
