So I have two basic rigs i take candid/street style images with. One is a 1D with 70-200 on it and the other is a 5D with nifty 50. I get much better candid style shots with the zoom but it is a very noticeable camera to be carrying around. The 5D and 50mm are much less obtrusive but you are much more noticeable to your subjects. What are other people using?

My best street photography is done with 35 or 50.

Personally, I find telephoto street photography to be boring. There's no background and it's like a studio portrait with bad light. Too hard to manage perspective with a tele.

This is not the norm but, I use an 85 1.2 On a 5D 111. Works better than most people think.. On a 5D auto focus is fine.

I'll do so in a few weeks :D
At the moment, I use a Zeiss 50/1.4 on a 5D III. Also a quite nice combo although the Zeiss is very soft wide open.

Crop body + 28mm works for me. I use that setup on both film and digital.

I love this combo... I take the grip off the 7D, pop the 28 on, and shoot away.

I mainly shoot street candids in low light conditions. Somehow I'm attracted to dark dingy places ;) street markets in developing countries are my favourite places.

I tend to use fast primes. EF 50mm f1.4, EF 85mm f/1.8 and 135L. I also love the little 22mm f/2 on my EOS M for street photography. My 40mm f/2.8 also works well on both the EOS M and my DSLRs.
