Great stuff Phil. Love those exposed coffin shots. Creepy!

Shampoo sounds like an unfortunate name for a hair product.
You're a ghost driving a meat-coated skeleton made from stardust, riding a rock, hurtling through space. Fear Nothing!

Just noticed this thread.
These are ancient graves on a hillside overlooking the Mediterranean about half a mile from my house. They were cut into the granite bedrock of the hill about 2,500 years ago by residents of the fishing village on the beach below. The tombs consist of a square vertical shaft about 10 feet deep, usually with stairs carved into the stone in one corner, and one or two rooms cut into the hillside.

And here's one from the cemetery of the German Quarter in Haifa where a group of German Protestants settled in the latter part of the 19th Century.

Wow!

Thanks so much for the interesting pics from Israel.

That early burial method looks fascinating.

Can you give us more on that?
Were the "inmates" put in whole...?
Standing up? Sitting down? On their sides?

At the moment, I'm talking to a LOT of Japanese about the current trend in massively-overpriced "plots" of marble which are easily big enough for whole bodies....and yet everyone is cremated, and put in little pots.
Which seems such a waste of nutrients.

Regards,

Simon
