My MKIII is a little soft and still under warranty so I thought I would send it in to Canon to be checked and cleaned. Went to UPS today and they wanted $70 to ship it insured! $17 without insurance. Is there a more affordable way to send a camera? Of course I want to insure it, but $70 for shipping is insane.

USPS would be like $30 shipped priority and insured.

USPS registered mail would be slower shipping but much cheaper insurance.

i just plugged in a box of 15" ^3. 6lbs. insure for $3500. from new york to irvine, ca.

~$47 via ups ground.

i wouldn't insure for $3500 though. probably $2800 will do it, so it should be less. also you won't be shipping new york to ca--there are other canon facilities.

anyway, point is, it doesn't cost $70. you packing this yourself or are you talking about having a 3rd party do this for you?

UPS said they charge $2 for every $100 insured. I had it insured for $3,000, plus the cost of shipping. I'll try my local post office on Monday.

FedEx Ground, available at Kinko's. Also if you are using the UPS store, I think they mark up the rate you would get if you take it direct to a UPS terminal.

Tell us where you live, we might be able to be more specific.
