It appears that Canon has cracked down yet again. Over the last few days the prices have gone up on various lenses (and cameras) to the Canon 'Minimum Advertised Price'. I had been following a few lenses on Amazon, Adorama and B&H. For example, 24-70 II went up to 2099 (from 2049). This is also 'confirmed' on Canon Price Watch website.

Too much gear, not enough skill or time!
5DIII, 6D & 7D; 16-35 L, 24-70 II L, 70-200 f/2.8 II L, 100-400 L, 135 L, 35 L, 24 TSE L, 50 1.4, 85 1.8
Extender 1.4 II. 580 EX. Gitzo 1541T, 3541LS, Markins Q3T, Q20.

I've noticed that in the last few days, even authorized dealer eBay merchants that were historically first to use add-in-cart to avoid the MAP price have now abolished it on certain items (examples would be Profeel/PMIDigital and "The Imaging World").

For example, every authorized dealer is pegged at $3299 for the 5D Mark III now, with no add-to-cart discounts possible. To see all retailers make this change at once suggests a policy change from Canon regarding the enforcement of add-to-cart discounts. This does not bode well; it's effectively a $350 price increase from the add-in-cart prices of about $2950 over the last 5 months.

Agree. The uniform and widespread change to all the previously discounted items in addition to loss of 'add-to-cart' discounts suggests a Canon crackdown. Not good at all.

Well, the way to fight this is to not buy anything. If you don't buy it then they can't make any $$ and will have to lower prices. If you buy it after they've raised the price then you are accepting the price increase and telling them that they did the right thing.

I haven't bought anything from Canon since they started this silly MAP thing.

And so far it seems to be working... so, keep it going... ;) ;) :D

I was looking at the 17-40 and Amazon went from $699 to $739 on it. Adorama and B&H still seem to have it at $699. Maybe I better strike now...

Ya, you're right it probably does nothing. It's the principal of the thing for me. Besides this way I have more $$ for a rainy day. :)
