Any word on any new crop bodies coming?

I sold my 7D but regret it. I liked the multiplying effect of the crop body. And a 2nd body comes in handy. I'm thinking about buying another to compliment my 5DIII. But I'm concerned that as soon as I buy the 7D, that Canon might introduce a new crop body to replace the 7D. I noticed there is a rebate offer on the 7D and that sometimes happens if a new model is coming out.

Any rumors? ;)

There will definitely be something coming. Canon won't just let Nikon and Sony take over the APS-C market, and both their higher end APS-C cameras are getting quite long in the tooth. It is just a matter of when, and unfortunately no one knows the answer.

Well, considering they JUST updated the Rebel line with the T5i and the SL-1, I'm sure that's covered...however, the 7D is the longest-made APS-C Canon EVER...I'm sure the new one is just around the corner...

According to here http://www.cameraegg.org/category/canon-eos-70d/ (external link) Canon will be announcing the 70D in June. The rumours were it was to be announced at the end of April but then Canon changed their mind and will be putting a 'new' 21Mp sensor instead of the 18Mp from the 700D (T5i). I'm keeping a very close eye on the developments as I'm planning to swap my 7D backup body for a 70D if it lives up to expectations. The 7D MkII release seems to have been shelved until next year according to some sources, although the announcement may come late this year.

If you like the 7d it might be better to buy now. Any release will also have a premium price

False. The best time to buy a current-generation 7D will be when the new one gets released... ;)

To some extent I welcome Canon's approach to the release of the 7D replacement...I'd rather see one new vastly improved body every 4-5 years, than the stuff they were pulling back in the 20D/30D/40D days, when they released a new - only slightly improved - body every year.

That does not necessarily always be the case. 5d2 dropped to approx 1500 euro here just before the 5d3 was released and then climbed back to 1600 before stock depleted on more than one internet store

Well, that's really a bummer. Seriously, my 7D is hanging on... barely. It's 5 years old and counting. Come on now, CANON!!!

Not sure I want to wait till 2014 and I don't expect the 70D to be a replacement for the 7D, so I might as well bite the bullet and just buy another 7D. Should have kept my 7D, but at least I'll have a newer 7D.

Thanks,

The 7D is a great camera! I for one would rather wait another year or two for some really good improvements as opposed to a early update with just incremental improvements.

I want to hope that there is a paradigm-breaking sensor coming up. I have my doubts that they would introduce it with the 70D though. More likely with the 7DII...

If this is the case, it would free Canon up to issue a 70D with all the bells and whistles (MFA, high FPS, high ISO etc) and mop up the prosumer market, before issuing a new model that everybody will want!

About the only thing I'd like to see that I could use is an updated sensor and image processor and a few more pixels. I love the low light capability of my 5D3 and more pixels would help with telephoto cropping, on my 7D.
