incredible! I'd never figure a 5 second exposure could produce this... you must have been away from any light source. Great job

I'll have to try with my 40 at ISO 1600 @ 10 secs and see where that gets me

Just point to the sky on a clear night and use similar settings, so long as the focus is bang on (50mm ƒ1.8's aren't easy to focus on stars...) then you should be alright.

Only 40 mins or so out from the city, still a fair amount of light pollution but workable.
The 40 will get some great shots
