For this image, taken at the Gettysburg National Military Park, I thought I'd try to give it an old photograph look.

THe Library of Congress has a ton of Civil War images cataloged and available digitally:

http://www.loc.gov/pictures/collection/cwp/ (external link)

These images are incredible on their own, but also offer rich source material for creating period photographic looks (toning, damage, various sharpness and contrast, etc.).

Nice interpretation Gene.

Thanks for the comments...and link Kirk. There are a couple of photos there that inspired me to do this one some time ago. I took the original at the local RR Museum when they had Civil War reenactors visiting there. I thought the boys expression was perfect for this type of edit.

Very well done, Gene. KUDOS.

Have plenty of Canons, enough ammo, enough to blow 'em to "L". Now, I just have to learn to aim.

Nice processing. But that kid looks too well fed. Those old Civil War portraits showed REALLY lean people. :)

Thanks Bill, maybe I can apply a little liquify to give him some sunken cheeks and just make him look skinnier overall. ;)

Very nice. Love the old photo look. Fits the mood.

Headed over to Gettysburg this Sunday. I live about 30 miles away and try to make it there every year. Missed last year:( Can't wait to try out my new camera there. Lots of photo ops!

Thanks. There was a lot more I would have liked to see and as you know, the area is very large. We arrived early but left late morning when busloads people and running, hollering kids started to get to be too much.

Thanks. I'm kinda surprised no one has asked to see the color version of the canon. Here it is for what it's worth.
