It makes the pro account seem so silly at the moment. I for one won't be renewing for something I don't need or ever going to ever likely to fill up to 1Tb

But that is exactly what they want. They do not want any pro accounts anymore which is the reason why they don't accept any new pro accounts and why they offer existing pro account holders to switch back to free and get money back.

Yeah but how do they refund? A whole year? Pro-rated? Not much info to be found. Also, how do pages with ads look like? Can't exactly see this since I have a 'pro' accound but would like to see how the ads are.

Did you get a mail from them?
Did you follow the link you got with that mail?
Did you try the "Learn more" link?

Yes, it only redirects me to a page to 'cancel' not saying what that would do

well, I wont be renewing my membership. I don't care about ads, the only reason I used to pay was the 200 displayed pictures limit for non-pro.

Also, 1 TB -- that is apx. 500,000 jpgs? So once it fills up (eventually,) you just have to start deleting, right? Is there a way to find out how close you are to 1 TB? Someone else posted that they were less than 1%?

I also find not much reason to renew pro account, I don't find statistics that much important and for ads I use adblock and enjoy ad free web. My renewing is in three weeks, so I'll wait and see where will this go by than. Also I'll pay more attention to project 1709 and see what will come out of that.

I like it. It isn't 500px standard, but 500px has that terrible intrusive rating system that destroys the purpose of image hosting.

Hit canel on the tab in the email and you will be changed back to free. You lose stats (no big deal) and will see ads. Your refund is prorated and if you paid by credit card and its still on file, your credit card will be credited back. All of my images are still there, if you select the ... to the far right on the bar of your photostream then popular it will only show the top 200 images.

Just logged into my flicker account about half hour ago.

Pro account also, simply so i could have more then 200images viewable...

The new crap. I bloody hate it!

My understanding it that the Pro account will keep adds off of your stream. The cost to have no adds going froward will be $50 per year. So if you care about that sort of thing keeping the Pro account would be a good idea. I think Pro account users will be able to keep paying the same price they are now.

If current Pro customers don't have ads, then they just can't add ads with this update. So main loss would be to not see any Pro tag.

All on the heels of Yahoo buying tumblr...

New GUI looks like total distasteful disaster to me.
As Pro account I'm unlimited for now.

Flickr was perfect for me, easy to deal with groups, sets and contacts. But with new GUI and new pricing it doesn't seems to be anymore...
