Isnt the 6D sensor an improvement on canons part? Looking at the dpr website raw comparisons page, the 6D totally smashes all nikon cameras at high ISO and looks near identical to the Nikon D4. Dynamic range and banding seem to be better conrolled as well.
Not everyone cares about high ISO. Canon sensors tend to do better at high ISO, since shot noise dominates there, meaning that Canon's disadvantage in read noise and pattern noise are drowned out.
But, at low ISO, where shot noise isn't a major issue, Canon's lack of a modern A/D conversion technique really shows. Which is a pity, since, if we extrapolate from the high-ISO results, Canon sensors should actually do better than the Exmor, if only they'd use a column-parallel system like every other manufacturer out there. But they seem to insist on sticking with their 2001-era technology.
