So I had my heart all set on buying the Canon 85mm 1.2 as my Christmas gift this year. I've played with the lens before and I like it but I don't love it. It does produce some stunning photos. And, honestly, it is a sexy piece of glass.
But now I'm torn. I've seen comparison shots between the 85 1.8 and the 85 1.2 @ 1.8 and they look the same to me. When I'm shooting for shallow DOF I'm almost always in the 1.8 - 2 range anyway. I also have the 70-200 II and everyone keeps saying I can get that same creamy background but I have yet to accomplish this. I know the 135 can do it and take stunning pictures but it's a bit long. I've played with my 70-200 shooting only 85 or 135 to get a feel for the difference and it is quite dramatic.
I also LOOOVE macro and need a 100mm macro anyway so for just a bit more I and get all three.
So my question is: Am I going to regret not getting the 1.2?
